Because most humans are fucking stupid.

Our society actually has competitions and rewards people who, when holding a device in their hand that allows them to speak to another person, choose to type a message to them.

Maybe a little weeding out could be a good thing.

Yesterday I saw on the freeway a little old lady, bless her heart could barely see over the steering wheel, and she was on the cell phone as I passed her!
there's an accident waiting to happen. plus while driving, do not mix!

People get so used to driving they forget how dangerous it can be & how quickly something can happen. It's incredible to me - the other night I was getting on the freeway on a really short entrance (meaning it throws you into oncoming freeway traffic pretty quickly) & the guy in front of me was just gliding along as if he wasn't getting on the freeway!! I go around this mf (don't ask, lol) & sure enough his ass is holding the cell phone to his ear, just not paying attention to wtf he's doing. It's very frustrating. & the way they're bundling the phones w/ everything under the sun now is just gonna make it worse. People are gonna be watching movies & shit while driving (which they do already!)

It's the compulsion to read your message when you hear your phone go off, then it's the compulsion to respond as soon as you read it. I am guilty...it's best to just turn your phone off or on silent/no vibrate when in the car.

They just passed a law in Tennessee a couple of weeks ago against texting while driving. Don't know really how they will be able to enforce it, but have a law against it anyway.


I really don't understand the texting craze anyway. Just call the damn person, say what you have to say, then you are done. I'd like to punch people in the damn mouth who can't have a normal conversation without being rude and picking up the phone and reading a text or sending one. I swear it's become a habit to millions almost like when it was cool to smoke.

You're right about it being a compulsion. I normally don't like being on the phone period these days, but I will search all over the fricking car to find my ringing phone. I normally don't answer it, but the ringing is enough to distract me.
