Media takeout seems to think there may be some fowl play:

July 25, 2009. MediaTakeOut.com just received some stunning news. On Thursday evening, popular gay activist and author E Lynn Harris passed away suddenly.

Here's what we know so far - an insider told us that he was on a business trip in Los Angeles to promote his new book and to sign a VERY lucrative deal to have his books developed into a TV series. MediaTakeOut.com's insider claims that less than a day after he signed the deal, he was found dead in his hotel room.

Right now, it's not clear how he died - and we're gonna have to wait and see what comes out. As soon as we get more info, we'll pass it on

For those of y'all who don't know who he is ... he's the author that would write those SCANDALOUS books about Black men living DOWNLOW lifestyles. His most popular book was Invisible Life.

You guys should see some of the racist and narrow-minded comments being posted over there.

I doubt there's any conspiracy involved, I believe I read somewhere that his personal assistant confirmed his health had been in decline. And it doesn't surprise me or raise any "red flags" that they would not want to be any more specific about the cause of death. My guess is that would have been the choice of the deceased. Regarding the hateful comments remarked: The people making them clearly seem to be ignorant by definition, and their greatest intellectual achievement to date has probably been that they were even able to pull the dicks out their own ass and crawl out their grimy little dimly lit closets long enough to log-on & tap out those barely coherent words of hate, lol. Their fears & frustrations with their own questionable sexualities are transparent.

If you liked "Invisible Life", you'll probably like ALL his titles. My only criticism of E. Lynn Harris is that all of his books had a similar theme and feel, as well written and engaging as they all were. But I believe most authors have their areas of expertise and tend to stay within those parameters.

That's true. I enjoyed all of his books, but you are right, he kept a common theme.

I thought he was declining as a writer. He seemed to be completing contractual obligation.

I agree. Especially with the last few books.

When I read Basketball Jones, I thought it was well written, but was predictable in parts.

Yes. And he never did anything with Basil Henderson. So why keep bringing him up?

I thought the same thing. I just knew when Basil came in, there would be a bit more action.

Can't wait to see the movies that will be coming from his books though. I wonder who will star in them? Hope some big names/talents sign on and do it justice. How about Morris Chestnut, Brian White, Cuba Gooding Jr., or Todd Smith to play Basil Henderson? The lead female role should naturally go to Halle Berry, lol.

I always envisioned the character of Yancey being played by Robin Givens and her mother being played by Dianne Carrol or Jennifer Lewis. For Raymond, I always envisioned someone like Courtney B. Vance or some other nerdy looking actor. As for Basil, I don't know. The closest person that comes to mind to me is Shemar Moore. I only say that is because he described him a chiseled with perfect abs and a caramel complexion. He is loved by women and a lot of women find him attractive (like Basil) but not sure if men would be attracted to him also. lol

I just had a thought. The character of Yancey could also be played well by the girl on "House Of Payne" that plays Janine:
