...a Hispanic...is of Spanish-decent...meaning spain....
..a chicano...is 1st generation born in USA of mexican-parents..

I don't think the bolded part is accurate. I've always believed that "hispanic" refers to ANYONE born in a spanish speaking country. I'm black ethnically but I'm hispanic because of my nationality. shrug

Oh, you're going there. That's a whole different ballgame.

I have never heard that term in reference to any Americans, But I'm familiar with the idea.

Yah it's more highly recognised here in Oz. I myself would assume that Native American Indians is the correct term.

Not my fault. Just like white people like to identify themselves as Irish, Belgian, Austrian, etc., there are MANY different Indigenous Australians. These people have been labeled the generic Aborigine, which has now taking the word label status of Kleenex. Same thing happened to the "Native American Indian." Even though there are so many tribes and actual variation in culture, tongue, even physical characteristics, they all get lumped into one group.

Think of the phrase: Native American Indians. Native is the same thing as Aboriginal. American describes a land that was "discovered" by an Italian and named after a cartographer in the late 1400's. Indian implies a connection to the country of India.

You might call "PC BULLSHIT" but geez. When something is wrong it's WRONG. Like saying somebody from Thailand is Asian, but not calling somebody from Russia or India an Asian. Or calling an Iranian an Arab.

In a country like the United States, we are SUPPOSED TO BE A MELTING POT. No matter what country your ancestor's hail from, you're a United Stater. Your people may hail from Mexico, but you're not a Mexican. Your people may hail from Ireland, but you're not Irish. You are a United Stater. You are British. You are what your nationality says you are.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Would it offend you if someone like a co-worker or someone who casually knew you said it to you?

I would not be offended but I can't relate to the word.
