I grew up understanding it to means specifically Mexicans born in America, but then we're right next to the border so it was basically only Mexicans of hispanic descent that were generally around. But it's interesting to know that the word really isn't local. Am I tripping when I thought it became offensive? Hispanic is a general term that can include all sorts of Spanish speaking people. But you can offend a Mexican by calling them Chicano if they were not born here. Basically in my hispanic world you're either Chicano or you're Mexican, ie., either born here or not born here. I learned very early not to call Mexican-born, Chicano . And I got the shift as people from Central and South American started coming. It just hit me kind of hard that I'm hearing it so much now especially from the TJ based radio stations, our hip/hop and ole skool stations are based in TJ.

I just am very proud to be an American My Mother and Father both went through hell to get our family here to live the American dream. I am also as chicana as they come, I speak fluent spanish, and enjoy a nice Taco de Carnitas from my local cart vendor.

I prefer HUMAN better than anything. I do consider myself latino, not hispanic. I am not a chicano because I was born in Mexico and moved here at the age of 4. For me I hate that when I fill out a job application they ask what my"ethnicity" is it really gets me going, they never have Middle Eastern, or Arabic options, or they just generalize and I wonder what do they do with that data, as for as Chicana/o I always thought it was a California thing, then My sister said it's aMexican thing, I roll with it, like to show pride with diversity, however I think that ALL RACIAL TITLES/LABELS DO IS CREATE A DIVERSION, a way to compare, and separate, when really we are ALL ONE PPL!!!!!
