By coincidence they were both 74 years old or something like that. We had to trim the fat off of them so that we could label certain muscles. It was totally surreal. I'm glad that they're heads were all covered in gauze. It may have been a different experience if I could see who they were. I remember my mom at the time. She would ask me if I worked with the cadavers every day. If I said I had she would say "Then don't kiss me." She didn't want me near her. Nope, ain't gon' be able to do it.

I like the idea of donating organs once you´re dead but then again I´m always a bit worried that some racist ambulance driver or the doctors at the hospital might just let me die and not really give their best to save me just to get the organs.I know it sounds weird but that´s probably the only reason why I´m still reluctant when it comes to donating organs. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

....only sayin'..... [Edited 7/22/09 12:54pm] This is one of my absolute favorite books! To answer the question, I've been an organ donor since I first got my license. I also want to be cremated. All of my family know that I want anything donated that can be, then the rest cremated.
As my mom said, "We don't want to be planted." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

You need to get your wishes stated in your will in very specific terms so everyone understands what you want done. My mom has it all drawn out in her will. I am an old child so she wanted to make it easy for me, I suppose. I wish to have anything donated that I can. Even if it is just for science or learning purposes. Who cares, once I am died, this body is of no use to me anymore. I have not thought beyond that though. I am deathly afraid of fire so cremation sort of scares me. I did have a living will drawn up when I lived in the states. If I am a veg, pull the plug, please.

I plan on either donating my body to science or being cremated. I'm not sure how the cadaver process works, but if you can voluntarily give them your body then that is what I'd like to do b/c that is how doctors learn to save lives and how forensic scientists learn to bring criminals to justice. I feel like sealing the body in a box and putting it in the ground is kind of a waste.
I'm also an organ donor. I'm not sure if you can be an organ donor and a cadaver, but I'll work that out later. If I am in fact too old and decrepit for that then I'll just be cremated. I graduated bitches!!! 12-19-09

Read that book "Stiff" that's mentioned above. It tells you all about what you could be used for as a cadaver, even after your organs have been donated. There's just no end to the possibilities! I love how it opens with the severed heads on trays for the plastic surgeons to practice nose jobs on. This could be you! See my above answer as to what I want to have done when I die. I have actually seriously considered plastination. I've seen the exhibit twice actually, once in Brussels when it was still farily new, and once in Mpls. I find it so fascinating. Although my mom said that if I die before her, she refuses to come and visit me in the traveling exhibit. Yeah, the first time I saw it I had no clue what I was even going to because we just drove down to Brussels with some friends, one of which is a nurse, who wanted to see this "medical exhibit". So you can bet I was a bit shocked at what it actually was. They held it in this old cool cave/tunnel location underground, which made it really creepy. I was so influenced by it all, that I wouldn't shut up about it for weeks afterward. I thought it was really beautiful. The second time, I wasn't as impressed because I had already seen it, seen the same people, and it was held at the Science Museum of Minnesota, which was all light and bright and modern, which sort of took away the creepiness for me. Why do people always qualify their statements by saying things like "I know this is a morbid subject but....", like they are apologising for something or they are worried about what people think of their statement.
Death is a fact. It happens every day. Why are people so apologetic about bringing it up??
