ok I know this is a morbid subject but.....

How do you want your body to be handled after death?

I was reading an article in the NYT today on the resurgence of home burials and it got me to thinking?

I know I want to be cremated after the donation of all usuable organs including eyes and skin. I came to this decision gradually but mostly because of a discussion with a friend of mine a few months before her death.

So any Green Burial people on the org? this is a great new approach!

medical donation? freezing?

I think the most important thing in all this is communicating your wishes to your friends and family members.

anyway I was just wondering...

I'm having a garage sale and a barbeque = organ donation (get 'em while they're HOT!) and cremation (SCNDLS on fiyah til the very end). I don't want none of that casket BS or graveyard stuff. talk to the hand

highfive

I don't get the point of being buried at all. It's a complete waste of money and who the hell is gonna clean up your grave 100 years from now. Plus stories like what happened at the cemetary in Chicago make me shudder. shake

I have only visited my parents' grave once, and that was because my wife made me.

I just don't believe there is any part of them in the casket. Their beautiful souls are in Heaven and in my heart, all the time.

Exactly. When you go to a gravesite it's sad and usually tear-filled. I'd rather my friends and family keep me in their memories and hearts and laugh their asses off when they think about me. lol

biggrin That phrase is actually in my will. And instead of a memorial service in a church I'm hosting a dinner with an open bar at my favorite steakhouse. I want my peeps getting fucked up in my honor, on my dime, one LAST time. lol

I have/had relatives buried all over New Orleans, I haven't asked anyone if they are all still buried. But when I saw those caskets floating in the flood waters I cried.

I knew then I didn't want to be buried.

I told my kids they could split me up if they wanted or sprinkle me over the bay.

Same here, but that's not what my hubby wants and since the possiblity exists that I'll go before he does, I could end up buried in his family's graveyard in Texas.

I say I believe because my grandmother elected to be cremated virtually at the last minute. Not sure why that changed for her but I realize I may have a change of heart. Probably not though.

lol Girl, we ain't the same size. hmph!

My will says that my girlfriends and nieces will be able to take what they want. Some things I've specifically left for certain people, like my furs and jewelry. But the shoes, handbags, and clothes are fair game to the named individuals. This reminds me that I need to update my will, power of attorney, and medical directive documents. geek

Maybe I should update mine too - though I'm on the fence re: cremation vs. grave. hmm

I worked on 2 cadavers in college. By coincidence they were both 74 years old or something like that. We had to trim the fat off of them so that we could label certain muscles. It was totally surreal. I'm glad that they're heads were all covered in gauze. It may have been a different experience if I could see who they were.

I remember my mom at the time. She would ask me if I worked with the cadavers every day. If I said I had she would say "Then don't kiss me." lol She didn't want me near her.
