I know I'm late to this but I wondered whether we are allowed to discuss BitTorrent in general terms?

Peer To Peer is one of the few internet killer "apps" I have never used nor felt any real need to investigate but I'm guessing it can be used quite legitimately to upload, download, non-copyrighted material. I guess that was the reason it was invented and "piracy" then hijacked the tech later by default?

So I'm interested to know how many of you have used it, which applications are the safest or best or most useful. What advantages or disadvantages has it brought to you? Is it wise to venture into BitTorrent now both in terms of malware and making IP addresses public and vulbnerable to attack, and also in terms of it possibly being a dead duck and something else much better being on the way.

I've done a bit of reading up on Wiki and followed the whole Pirate Bay case in Sweden with interest.

If it's still a bit taboo to discuss then fair enough, let this thread sink otehrwise I'd be interested in find out more?

Wow!! U are a bit behind the times, arent u??? I have been using BitTorrent, or the alternative, uTorrent, for about 6 or 7 years now!!! I wont download any other way(except either MegaUpload, MediaFire and/or Rapidshare from www.guitars101.com).

If it wasnt for torrent downloading I wouldnt have got virtually all the music that I have now and I have virtually around 7 - 8,000 CDs, mainly concerts, outtakes, rehearsals, demos, DVDs from such artists and bands as Prince, Coldplay, Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham, Dire Straits, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Santana, etc.!!

I have COMPLETE concert tours from all of the above artists and bands, which I would have never got otherwise!!! It also helps if u register with various bands and artist tracker sites, although some dont have them(Like U Know Who!!!)
