Mens Shirts--2nd or 3rd Button? Men, Ladies!
How should a guy be wearing a casual dress shirt, assuming he's not wearing a tie? Does he unbutton down to the second button, or down to the third? Or is it completely dependent on the shirt/social situation? My Legacy

I say the second. The third is very man-cleavage. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"

Ding! Ding! Ding! I agree with Miguel. The third maybe comes open halfway through the eve and about 3 drinks in on the dancefloor.

I think either the second needs to be moved down or the third needs to be moved up.
Second feels stuffy, and third feels swinger-y It never seems quite right. My Legacy

The third pic is how I dress when going out to a club. If that's where you're going then that's okay.
Second is appropriate for the office. First is for the pool I guess. Or bedroom just before stuff goes down.

You can pull that off. I think there are guys that can't, though. First is for the pool I guess. Or bedroom just before stuff goes down.

OH WAIT!!! TIME OUT!
The Bill Gates is open to the 2nd? Then I guess dress more to the 3rd. But my shirts are seldom ever open as far as Mr. Craig's Ultimately, I think it depends totally on the shirt and situation tho. CLUB: DINNER: [Edited 7/15/09 13:36pm]

The cut and style of the shirt determines that, and of course your own comfort level in wearing the shirt.

rawr! NDRU is a musician. He can probably pull off the first style casually.

I am wearing a brand new shirt to the office today...it's white with very thin stripes. Once I put it on, I couldn't decide if it looked like it should be worn with a tie or not. Since the office is "business casual" (no ties), I am wearing it open to the third button (meaning the 1st & 2nd buttons are open, right?). This is the first time IN MY LIFE that I've worn a shirt to work down open to the 3rd button (not counting the time the air conditioning busted). By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

That's me! My god, in that pic my shirt may actually be open to the fourth button. First of all! YAY! I've never seen you! Second, looks like you're out club or bar and Thirdly that style of shirt warrants (IMO) open buttons. It's totally appropriate and suits you.

depends on the shirt
depends on what you're wearing over and/or under the shirt and depends on what your chest looks like

I'm thinking that this is right. Bill Gates looks appropriate. Dorky, but appropriate. And so do James Bond and Magnum for that matter. Not many would attempt to pull of the Magnum look though Damn, I was looking for a simple answer, and the answer is that I still need to think for myself! My Legacy
