Richard Jefferson Dumps Fiancée Kesha Ni'cole Nichols by E-Mail

Let's keep this short and sweet, since that's apparently how Richard Jefferson rolls. Brinson told you about RJ's last-minute break-up with fiancée Kesha Ni'cole Nichols earlier this week. The couple was set to be married last weekend, but RJ called it off a few days before. (His friends still partied on his dime, of course.)

The New York Post talked to RJ about the situation, and Jefferson admits he called off the wedding and broke up with Nichols by e-mail. He said he chose the typed word as the right medium to get his thoughts collected. Also, Jefferson tells the Post he gave Nichols, a former Nets dancer, a "six-figure settlement" to "help her move on." Also, he insists a rumor that he's gay is not true and has nothing to do with this. (Seriously. The Post actually asked that question, and he actually had to answer it.) Also, he called off his wedding via e-mail. I'm sure no heckling fan will ever use that as courtside ammunition.

Jefferson registers as fodder for the Post due to his seven seasons in New Jersey, where he starred as a key player on the most famous Nets team in the franchise's NBA history. The unfortunate rumor that RJ is gay likely stems from an old Media Takeout piece, which insisted one of those Nets was in the closet. (It's unfortunate because it implies that homosexuality is something to be ashamed of for athletes, or anyone. It's not.) Jefferson has also been in the news in the past for a potentially dubious assault arrest stemming from an incident in a Minneapolis night club.

Whatever you think about Jefferson's keypad send-off to Nichols, it's probably a smart move for everyone involved to break things off before the wedding if things aren't going well.

Six figure settlement? That could just be 100K. I guess its not a bad fee for getting dumped at the altar.

shit what athlete isn't accused of being gay? or actor or singer or anybody famous for that matter? it's a right of passage. falloff

Uh, huh, cuz celebrities NEVER lie about their personal lives. rolleyes I don't know if he's gay or not but the fact that there are no OPENLY gay players in the NBA or the NFL is proof enough that if asked they're gonna lie. I personally know SEVERAL athletes that are married or have long term girlfriends but be trolling for trade at Zippers, the local gay strip club. Many of these same dudes are known for being hoes and sleeping with tons of girls in addition to their wives. I had heard about this dude from people in NYC before the Mediatakeout post, so, this he ain't off the gay hook that quick. Oh, and he's even tackier (which I didn't think was possible) for doing this shit by e-mail. disbelief

Now that's kinda gay right there. Straight dudes would either get their homies to break the news (at least a week before the wedding) or not say a dang thing and leave ole girl looking at her watch and sweating up her wedding dress. Plus he gave her a "six figure settlement" to "help her move on". I'm sorry but either he is the almost most gentlemanlike dude or he was just giving her hush money.

lol For real, what distraught bride is gonna want to stay at the hotel where she was supposed to spend her honeymoon??? And if he did tell her 2-3 days before why would she GO to the hotel just to spend the night if she was that broken up??? This really sounds like he backed out of the deal cuz he didn't want her girl cooties to get on him. purse

What? That it's easier to cheat if you ain't married? It don't make a difference if you messing around with triflin' tricks. These dudes need to stop going for the low hanging fruit and actually get chicks with some class, even if she's a jumpoff. Until they raise their standards they will continue to have the same triflin' issues so no better for 'em. shrug
