I told him that I won't take my tanktop off, but he still insisted that I use a cabin as it would not be okay to take of my gilet in the shop . And sorry Charlotte for jacking your thread . Maybe I feel differently because I grew up in New York. If you're not embarrassed to try stuff on in the "open" then I have no problem with it.

One vendor outside a nightclub we frequented every night for the two weeks I was there saved my life as well. She told me to change my money before getting to the club because she noticed I kept pulling out $100 bills to buy burgers and that the locals would follow me home and rob me. The currency's so small I didn't think much of it.

I remember somebody on the street who was walking past me said to a friend "Now that's what I call white!" about me . And don't let me get started about that "whitey" comment somebody yelled at me from inside a car on a big street . My skin and my hair was just too much for them to deal with . Of course my accent was there too, but accent wise I am just like every other tourist I guess, probably better than most tourists in fact, while lookwise I am not. There are nicer ways to vent frustrations but a swear word now and again is okay but a foul mouth is a turn off.

Like having my buddies pull up to a roadside bar and order a round of beers in a rented stretch limo and watched the entire bar go dead quiet before we all jumped back in and took off (we were on our way to the church for the wedding, so we were kind of dressed up too). Funny shit like that. But black, or exceptionally pale, they know by the way you dress and your attitude that you're not from there.

I didn't do it for the attention, we were just thirsty. Plus I can't get through a church function without a drink. Actually, all the music throughout the region is similar since they all originated with the same African beat. From it (the beat) came Salsa, Zouk, Calypso then Soca. But there are subtle differences from island to island and they are noticeable. Antigua is different to St. Kitts, which is different to St. Thomas, which is different to Barbados, which is different to Trinidad, which is different to Dominica and so on. Believe me it's true. The Bajan women on the other hand just need to hit the gym a little more often in my opinion. I'm one black man who isn't into the thickness. [Edited 7/16/09 6:46am]

I've been to the other islands and have seen 'thick' women at all of them! Quite a number of them too including Antiguans but anyways to each their own perception.
