My parents have never said the F-word around us either. Combine that with 12 years of Catholic school and irreparable damage has been done to my being able to swear in public. neutral

No I don't think he is. Maybe he was disappointed that I was not more sensitive and didn't respect the culture in his country more. It was the same when we were shopping and I wanted to try a shirt on and I wanted to take my gilet off to put the shirt over the tanktop I was wearing and apparently you don't do that there in public. I told him that I won't take my tanktop off, but he still insisted that I use a cabin as it would not be okay to take of my gilet in the shop rolleyes.

And sorry Charlotte for jacking your thread boxed kiss2.

Maybe I feel differently because I grew up in New York. If you're not embarrassed to try stuff on in the "open" then I have no problem with it.

Good to know lol.
Maybe it was partly as everybody was staring at me all the time anyway because of my pale skin and red hair and he didn't want me to draw even more attention. I felt like an animal in the zoo. In fact the first time I was to Trinidad some kids in the zoo took pictures of me instead of the animals falloff.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Who knows maybe I would have gotten arrested then omfg lol.

I didn't even otice they were taking pictures of me boxed. When we were back home Peter saw it on a photo he had taken of me there that the kids in the background were taking pictures of me falloff.
However I noticed the staring of nearly everybody and heard some of the fucked-up (I am back on topic now woot!) comments they made rolleyes. But this time it was actually a lot better than the first time. I guess they were afraid to stare that open as I was with a local guy and not another tourist. As soon as I was going somewhere alone it was the same again though shrug. Don't you just love it when you walk a street and the cars slow down, honk the horn and men start yelling at you rolleyes.

I went down there for an old girlfriends sister's wedding and got the same treatment. The thing is I'm black and didn't expect it. But when they hear a foreign accent, they stick to you like flies on ... em ... mud. One vendor outside a nightclub we frequented every night for the two weeks I was there saved my life as well. She told me to change my money before getting to the club because she noticed I kept pulling out $100 bills to buy burgers and that the locals would follow me home and rob me. The currency's so small I didn't think much of it.

Well in my case it was sure the way I look. I remember somebody on the street who was walking past me said to a friend "Now that's what I call white!" about me confused. And don't let me get started about that "whitey" comment somebody yelled at me from inside a car on a big street confused. My skin and my hair was just too much for them to deal with falloff. And I am not only really pale and have that striking red hair (they didn't notice it is not natural I suppose), but I am also very skinny so that combination made me look like an alien there giggle.
Of course my accent was there too, but accent wise I am just like every other tourist I guess, probably better than most tourists in fact, while lookwise I am not. And I have been told that I don't dress like typical tourists do doesn't help either.

I did a lot of stuff to make myself stand out too. Like having my buddies pull up to a roadside bar and order a round of beers in a rented stretch limo and watched the entire bar go dead quiet before we all jumped back in and took off (we were on our way to the church for the wedding, so we were kind of dressed up too). Funny shit like that. But black, or exceptionally pale, they know by the way you dress and your attitude that you're not from there. lol

I didn't do it for the attention, we were just thirsty. Plus I can't get through a church function without a drink. Anyway, who I stayed with knew me pretty well so I pretty well knew what they had to say about me, any one else who had shit to say I didn't care about. Trinidad's a hell of a lot of fun though. I'm going back again in February for Carnival. cool

Have fun biggrin! I never have been in Trinidad during carnival. Maybe that would be a good time for me to go as there are others around then who might look more "outstanding" than I do and I won't get so many stares then falloff. I am just not sure about the music they'd play. I suppose it would be as loud as they usually play music. And it would not exactly be the kind of music I enjoy lol.

Oh it's a whole lot of fun. Every country in the region has one but Trinidad's the best, well beside Brazil's. Scantily clad women gyrating through the streets for hours, and men too, but I'm not into watching or dancing with them. lol

Antigua's Carnival starts next weekend, always around my birthday so I use the two weeks as my birthday party every year. lol Barbados women are a bit too thick for my taste and their music leaves a lot to be desired. Not really into that one.

Tsk tsk tsk ~one love~ unite mon'. Of course ur biased cause ur Antiguan lol but I don't pay attention to the bajan women during cropover I'm there for the festivities. The soca and calypso music sounds very much the same to me as it does in any of the WI festivals.

Actually, I'm American, but you get acclimated when you stay down in these parts for a while. Actually, all the music throughout the region is similar since they all originated with the same African beat. From it (the beat) came Salsa, Zouk, Calypso then Soca. But there are subtle differences from island to island and they are noticeable. Antigua is different to St. Kitts, which is different to St. Thomas, which is different to Barbados, which is different to Trinidad, which is different to Dominica and so on. Believe me it's true. The Bajan women on the other hand just need to hit the gym a little more often in my opinion. lol I'm one black man who isn't into the thickness.

Yah I hear yah I've done my homework too in regards to history, music, traditions and customs etc and have been well educated by my WI partner. I've been to the other islands and have seen 'thick' women at all of them! Quite a number of them too including Antiguans but anyways to each their own perception.
