I still find the acting pretty awful, but I will say Ryan. ie Jason is playing that innocence card to the max this season. He just a straight up piece of hot cornbread. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

That's what it is!!! The acting's bad, in a cheesy way. Like when Eric interrupted Sookie and Bill making out, she actually says, "Oh, fudge!" Bitch, you just got mauled by something in the woods and you fucking a vampire but all we get is "Oh, fudge!"???? And it wasn't even convincing. Okay, I get it now.

Interestingly enough, the actor who plays Lafayette, Nelsan Ellis, also graduated from Julliard and is a playwright. [Edited 7/14/09 22:23pm]

[Edited 7/14/09 22:23pm] See and I think that the thing, the cast is in on the joke, its a show bout fucking vampires. Cause for the most part the cast is highly talented and have one hell of resumes. N the more I watch it I'm loving Michele Forbes' Mary Ann. Between her annoying, fake ass accent, neediness, and bad dancing I just don't know 'bout this hookah. And why's Lafayette trynta fuck the chair and hollering about Vegas??? That boy a fool!
Also, am I the only one who thinks the special effects on here are really cheesy? They couldn't come up with something a lil more high tech for Maryanne's vibratin'??? [Edited 7/14/09 21:26pm] I stopped watching the first season cause it was embarrassingly cheesy, Honestly I thought Alan Ball had laid a rotten egg. That being said I'm enjoying this season and am getting drawn into it against my will. Why? cause it suppose to be cheesy. I get it now, at first I was expected a six feet under type of show, now I get its just to be watched and enjoyed. N what the hell is maryann by the way? A Venus/Bacchus combo goddess or something? I read in another forum that Reverend Newlin was on one of the covers of the vampyre pornos (His First Fangbang ) that Sookie was checking out on the hotel room tv. I don´t know if it´s supposed to be a joke but it would make sense that Newlin was indeed one of those former-gays, don´t you think? [Edited 7/15/09 4:59am]

SCNDLS said: Lammastide said: Funny you mention Tara's dancing. Rutina Wesley was the lead character in a Canadian movie called "How She Move" released last year. She plays a competitive stepper, and folk went on and on about how well she danced in the movie! I haven't seen it, though, so I can't vouch for her. Tara is a bit much for me, though. She's works in the show, but I could never be bothered with her in real life. (Unless she needed some sort of pastoral help. ). Rutina, however, is sexy, I think -- she's cute enough and she's got a great athletic build. Hell, I wouldn't fight her! The special effects? Yeah, they're sketchy. Some are decent, but it looks RIDICULOUS when Sam morphs into the dog, for example, and those fangs can look really silly sometimes. But I love the hokiness of the show! Well I just looked her up and she was born and raised in Las Vegas, both her parents are professional dancers and she's apparently studied dance for years. This trick even graduated from Julliard. All this yet her scene dancing with Eggs looked awkward as hell and she's incapable of doing a simple Southern accent. She does have a nice body even though she's angular in a boyish, "dancer's body" kinda way. Nothing sexy about her IMO but I do think she's cute. I think the accent and how she's playing Tara is making it hard for me to like her. Okay, I was starting to think I was the only one unimpressed with the effects cuz no one's mentioned them. So, basically the show is being cheesy intentionally? Alrighty, then. I always thought dance scenes in movies and on tv looked so awful! Then one time I was watching a "the making of" type show for a movie and they were showing the filming of a dance scene. The actors are told to dance. There is no music playing, that is added later, so the actors are just moving to whatever music they're hearing in their heads. That's why they never look like they're dancing to the same music. You'd think the director would say, "Dance like you're dancing to insert song name here" so at least they'd all be on the same beat. I'm firmly planted in denial

The "Oh fudge" is part of Sookie's character. In the first couple of books, especially the first book, Sookie is very Southern Lady proper. Don't swear in front of me. Don't leer at me. Don't use the Lord's name in vain in front of me etc. So her saying "Oh fudge" is actually true to the books in spirit. Charlaine Harris is not the greatest at keeping her storyline/character traits constant, so Sookie kinda glides between being this proper Southern Lady and cussing. As for it not being convincing, that's just because Anna Paquin is a suck actor. I'm firmly planted in denial
