I Still Have My Sony PS1 and PS2 - What Should I Do?

They are fantastically in good shape and work well. No problems. The PS1 and PS2 games work.

Do I keep them or give them away?? I hate the idea of throwing them out in the dumpster when there is nothing wrong.

You can only play old playstation games on the PS3 if it's a backwards compatible model, and they're not easy to come across these days, they took out the emulator chip inside most models to cut costs.

You can play the PS1 games on the PS2 console. But the PS1 games and PS2 games cannot be played on the PS3 and that sux. Why do I want to run out and replace all my games? I'm hesitant to buy the PS3.

PS One is worthless, you might as well throw that out or give it to someone that wants it...

The PS2 still has some value. If you have any games with it you might be able to make a few bucks on ebay.

As far as I know, ALL PS3's can play PSOne games. But only the original PS3's can play PS2 games. Sony dropped PS2 compatibility because the PS2 was/is still selling fairly well,is still having games made for it, and thus is still a viable platform on it's own. It also allowed Sony to drop the price a little.

So if you're planning on (or already have) a PS3, you can sell/donate/whatever the PSOne, but keep the PS2 if you still play the games.

The only reason the PS2 was still selling well because the PS3 was so overpriced people were looking at the prices for the Wii, Xbox 360, and the amount and quality of the PS3 games out at the time and said "Fuck that!" lol

I worked at Gamestop the fall of 2007 and PS3 was barely moving units but people were constantly Xbox 360s and I can barely remember seeing a Wii in stock because they were selling like condoms at a swingers convention lol

YUP lol

I remember vividly organizing the games for each aisle and system. Nintendo was literally pouring out games, Xbox was consistent with the releases, but PS3's releases.....GOOD releases were far and in between

even now, Wii knocks them out with it comes to quality. Sure Sony has them in terms of graphics, but Wii has them on price, quality, quantity, playability,

....and Mario. and EVERYONE likes Mario, or at least Luigi lol

and Sony must've shit in their pants a little when they found out Square Enix were going to be bringing the Final Fantasy AND DragonQuest series back to Nintendo lol

I cleaned out my son's room last week, and have a pile of stuff. What are your experiences with GameStop? Is there an alternative store? I don't do ebay or stuff like that. I figured I would just trash it because he no longer plays with the older stuff, especially since he has all the current systems. I've got ps2, xbox, all the controllers, cords, etc. Tons of games, but he wants to take it to GameStop. I suppose something is better than throwing them out.

the ps2 p;lays ps1 games, so you don't need the ps1 anymore. even if you don't play games on ps2 anymore, it plays dvd's so it has some value as a backup player. gamestop has thousands and thousands of games for the ps2 at dirt cheap prices--$1.99 and up. pound for pound, these games are better than most new games (minus the graphics).

The equivalent to your Game Stop is EB Games stores here. They sell new and used games and consoles. They do buy your stuff but they don't give you much money and then they turn around and sell your stuff for a higher price which I think is a rip off.

EB and Gamestop are the same company. Your best bet with those places is not trading for cash, but rather store credit. I have little experience in that area, but I think you get a little more if you do the credit rather than cash.

If you plan on keeping them, and maybe even getting more games for them, you might want to check out this site...

www.digitpress.com

Also, if anyone wants to sell their older stuff, that site has a LOT of oldschool game collectors who would probably offer better prices than Gamestop and the like.
