My daughter will be 16 in November and sadly, yes I have.

Her mother said it was normal and it wasn't as bad as some I've seen. I did make her wear tights under the dresses though. wink

That's my point. Many parents would not allow or if they did allow it, would not feel comfortable seeing their actual young teen daughters dressed the way these dolls and cartoon characters are, so why is it okay when the toys are?

Why is it cute when Dora and Bratz and an innapropriately-older Rainbow Brite wear makeup and tight clothes when the same thing in real live girls would be deemed inappropriate and too sexy?

I allowed it. I just added a pair of tights to cut off any view of her goods in the event of a "wardrobe malfunction". lol

Except that Rainbow can't age, so the whole thing is stupid to begin with. On top of that, the new versions do look like little prosti-tots.

Parents in the crowd: Would you let your 12 year old daughters out in public with heavy makeup and tight dresses like these?

Where is the heavy makeup and tight dresses in that picture?

Other than the fact that the new one has bare arms the outfit is almost identical.

The only change is she is older, taller.

I think it's totally fucked up that the character is even being compared to a Bratz doll or prosti-tot.

Apparently the only truly acceptable attire for children is this:

Come to think of it though, Rainbow Brite might actually be a cool Halloween costume.

what's weird about Dora is, it appears she's grown up a bit...like got older...but cartoons don't grow older. Bart is still 10 (or whatever age he is supposed to be) Clifford isn't an old dog now, george doesn't get older..
Dora used to be like a 4 year old...with a 4 year old audience....now she appears to be like a. 7 to 9 years old...I just wonder if the content of the show has changed? are they still targeting the same age group? (I'm assuming it used to be 2 - 5 years old) or is she still a 4 year old but just looks older?

as for rainbow brite. She was a lame ass anyways...who cares! lol

I think maybe what these companies do is they age the characters some to hold on to the audience that might have outgrown the original for a few more years (or as long as they can), while also keeping the original to gain a new batch of younger fans.
That would be my guess.

you're probably right. Trying to eek out a few more pennies! seems like a dumb move....for the few they hold onto they probably loose just as many on the younger end. shrug what do I care...my kids like curious george and Tom and Jerry. lol
