I think what people are really taking issue with is that the new designs for Dora and Rainbow Brite are taller and thinner, rather than short and plump, not that they're sexualized (because they aren't).
Which makes sense if they're aiming at an older demographic than originally. Or if they're aiming at making them seem to be slightly older, so that they're in a "role model" position for little girls as they get older. Took me a minute to figure out it's not that they're sexualized... they're just taller and thinner. Which is what happens to kids when they get older. They get taller and they lose the baby fat features.

We know that's not generally healthy, and many of us have struggled with weight (I know I was a fat kid and a fat teen). Why make that a "role model"? All this PC crap has gotten so way out of hand.

doesn't look that much different other than she's looks like she's a teenager vs a child. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

Sorry but, when was the last time you saw a latino baby that wasn't wearing some form of gold jewelry. Baby girls in my family sport the baby wrist chains w/ the black fist and beads, and get their ears pierced when the girl is four days old. So that's actually an pretty accurate description. Umm, okay

Her hair doesn't look highlighted to me, it's just a different style of cartooning. Her eyebrows look normal and it doesn't look like she is wearing lipstick either. You guys are seriously grasping at straws here. I think she looks like a teenager vs. a young kid. & I'll confess, I don't even know what age Dora is supposed to be, but knowing that my friend's 3yo adores her, it makes me wonder why they had to add those particular embellishments to something (seemingly) geared toward the very young.

JustErin said: johnart said: That's not really a problem of that design. It's a cartoon and nothing is revealing. And why can't lips be parted? All cartoons cant have a line for a mouth. The problem lies in the people who find that to be a sexy look and something that belongs in porn IMO. Exactly. Says more of the person interpreting the image than it does about the image itself. I don't see it as sexual in any way at all. It's not even that they're making them "sexy", but they are going for a more grown-up look for something geared at children. Why can't children's dolls/cartoons/stuff look like kids (even puffy-headed kids)? It's just a little too glammed-out for me. But my bigger problem is w/ the Dora changes, Rainbow Brite isn't as bad imo...

the age group for dora and rainbow brite is 3 to 6 I heard. So there is no need to make these characters resemble asian cartoon porn characters.

Oh, the new Dora This is so crazy Guys, they are making new episodes with her a bit older...I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand. They are simply trying to milk this franchise for all it's got. So now they will have the older episodes with younger storylines and the new ones for older kids. Geez...
