falloff

Hilarious.

Maybe not so much as "sub-par" but certainly - without a doubt - the talent pool was definitely compromised.

That I can respect, "sub-par" I can not.

No doubt. I'm sure that the 20 best Negro League pitchers were better than the 20 worst white pitchers, so his numbers would have suffered.

But the opposite is true for the Negro League players - the best Negro League hitters would have been facing some white pitchers that were much better than the lower-tier Negro League pitchers, so their numbers would have been impacted, too.

Unfortunately, it is what it is. Maybe in the next life, it'll be like "Field of Dreams", and we'll get to see who was the very best.

I'm not sure how anyone can unequivically say say the picthing in the Negro Leagues was THAT much inferior to that of MLB. What are you basing this on?

I'm not saying it was inferior. What I am saying is that had there been integration back then, the worst pitchers in either the majors or the Negro Leagues would have been replaced by the best pitchers from the other respective league.

Let's say there were 100 white major league pitchers, and 100 Negro League pitchers, and then baseball was integrated.

I'm saying that, assuming equal talent levels between white players and Negro Leaguers, the 50 worst white pitchers would have been replaced by the 50 best Negro League pitchers. That doesn't mean the Negro League pitchers occupied spots 51 - 100; but it means that out of the best 100 pitchers now, 50 white pitchers would be gone.

So the Babe would have been facing a better quality of pitching. But so would the Negro League batters that now would have had major league jobs. The 50 worst pitchers in their league would be gone, replaced by 50 better white pitchers.

So everyone's numbers would probably have declined - whites' and blacks'.

Ok, I see what you're saying, and especially back then in that era.

No, it's not.

And I would say "may have been compromised".

Well, I'd have to compse a list and then go from there. Then I'd have to take into consideration "era" as well.

I watched an episode of Intervention last week. There was a guy on there who was a crack addict. He was a former professional cyclist, he was once on the U.S. Postal Service team with Armstrong. They said he was joking with Armstrong poked him in the stomach and called him dough boy. Armstrong had him thrown off the team. After that the guy when down hill and turned to drugs, ruined his life. Just thought this was something interesting to add.

As far as being the greatest athlete of our time, he might be. shrug
If you're not doing the fucking, then you're taking one.
