Was this mean of me? So this weekend I was on my way to get my hair cut and styled and on my way to the shopping center this guy that had to be atleast 10+ older than me with a mini mullet was like, "Hey, sweetheart where you going wanna stop and talk to me?" (He seemed like a pushy car sales guy.
I say:"No thanks" He says:"Where you going?" I say:"I got some errands to do" He says: "When you come back out you want to stop by and talk to me?" I say: "No. don't think about it" walked past him without looking back. Was I too mean? I really like spicy food. I mostly put Jalapenos on a lot of my food.

You were not too mean. There is nothing mean about saying NO. |

at first i was kinda worried that the guy would still be out there or he would be some weirdo. I really like spicy food. I mostly put Jalapenos on a lot of my food.

I hate that. I hate that feeling and I hate knowing that all women have that feeling, like, 10 times a week. |

I hate that. I hate that feeling and I hate knowing that all women have that feeling, like, 10 times a week. and that we regularly think about taking a different route back "just in case"

No you were not mean. He's a "stranger" you don't know him. And you don't know if he will try to harm you in any way. Next time don't say anything just ignore those types and keep on walking. absolutly not. it sounded like you were pretty polite in that you didn't completly blank him. be no harm keeping an eye out when you pass that way again to see if he works around there. alternating routes is a good idea.

Not mean at all, I wouldn't give it any more thought if I were you. RIP

No, you weren't mean.
If you'd said 'no... And get a fuckin haircut you freaky fuckin weirdo!' that would have been mean... Funny and accurate, but mean. I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

I'd prefer, "Can't, sorry" or "Have a good day" - something to let him know it ain't happening & this convo is over, without being the slightest bit mean. I dunno, their persistence only bugs me if it's rude or lude . [Edited 7/7/09 4:04am]

I hate that. I hate that feeling and I hate knowing that all women have that feeling, like, 10 times a week. I know. Although for me I realized that it's a U.S. thing mostly (with random men trying to stop and talk to you). No one ever says anything to me here in Holland. Ever. I don't feel that way very often at all, only if they're pushy or rude which is rare Then again, maybe my height curbs some of that shit

I was waiting for the "mean" part to appear and it never did
You weren't mean at all, just straight forward and to the point, as anyone facing a pushy bastard should be.

I hate that. I hate that feeling and I hate knowing that all women have that feeling, like, 10 times a week. Not all women feel that way even once a day. Feel better now? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No. I think it was smart and you were not nasty as a lot of women would have been I would have been annoyed and let him know it, because if I say NO the first time I don't like to be asked again! [Edited 7/7/09 4:43am]

Men are not extroverts here and I hardly ever hear them yelling things to women or even trying to talk to them in the street. I guess construction workers though. I think they're the same everywhere. You were too nice, imo. If that were me, the convo would have been more like:
Him: "Hey, sweetheart where you going wanna stop and talk to me?" Me: Keep walking while shooting daggers from my eyes and ignoring him. He says:"Where you going?" I say:"Away from you, asshole." The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

It's a shame women have to feel like they're walking on eggshells just to walk down the street. Too many times guys get overly offended by being rejected. Seems like more and more guys feel a woman is obligated to talk to them just because.
