I got all 4 taken out when I was around 22.

They were not impacted or causing any problem. Dentist said it would be good to have them removed so they do not become a problem.

After the wisdom teeth were removed the dentist gave me a prescription for 222's with codeine weed

My cheeks stuffed with gauze I felt like a chipmunk. eek

And having to change my bloody gauze every so often was ill

Weird. I have plenty of problems with my teeth, but this doesn't seem to be one of them. All four of mine are there, just like the first and second set of molars, seem straight and not pressing against the teeth next to them. I hope things stay that way! To be honest I never really knew much about wisdom teeth and had no idea those ones I already had actually were them. I thought they didn't come along until later (say 30+) boxed lol

I never had mine removed. Didn't have to. They were tender coming in when I was about 25, but I still have them and they don't bother me.

Yeah, like I said, I had braces at the time (about 21), so I remember there being pressure. But once they were in, it was fine.

I had all 4 of mine taken out a few years ago. It was short and sweet.....not a lot of pain involved either. They gave me painkillers just in case. They were nice. redface

Had mine taken out about 8 years ago. Hadn't been to the dentist in years, so thought I better go along. Didn't even realise I had wisdom teeth! Anyway, apparently I had two, one each side at the top. They'd grown longer than the rest of my teeth and the dentist said they would keep growing slowly because there was nothing for them to bite down onto at the bottom, so they'd have to come out.

He said they might be awkward and I'd heard horror stories, so was prepared for much pain and soreness. He said he could do one, then I could come back in a couple of weeks for the other but I thought it would be best to get them both done at the same time. So he gave me some injections and got to pulling. Out they came and I went back to work.

No pain during the procedure, obviously a bit sore after but nothing horrible. Considering some of the stories here, I consider myself extremely lucky.
RIP sad

Still have them at 33, my two top ones came out at 17 -18 and they have fillings like all my back teeth (Deep grooves) whereas my front teeth are all fine and have no cavities or fillings. My bottom two have been 3/4 erupted for 15 years and was told they are impacted and they have come out a bit wonky, but theres no pain and they are fine (I have a pretty big mouth) so its an unecessary expense I am trying to avoid (I take care of my teeth and they look great but I haven't been 2 a dentist since June 2003). I don't want them out unless they get really painful, but at my stage of eruption, they would just pull them rather than cut them out. I am proud of my teeth and want to keep all of them for as long as possible.
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I had one removed which went rather smoothly/pain-free, so the Dentist took a baseball bat to my shins.....

I just got mine removed yesterday. Hands down, it is the worst pain I have ever been in. Tell me your wisdom teeth removal stories.

I had mine removed when I was still in my teens (18 or 19 can't remember). Under General - No pain at all; had all four taken out, went home and had sausage, egg and chips for dinner.

MrsMdiver

I would have had them out earlier if I had known it was going to be as easy as it was.
My next dental adventure is not going to be as quick, easy or painfree.
sigh

One of my wisdom teeth came in while I was prego with my first child.
The dentist told me that I couldn't have the rest of my wisdom teeth pulled because they are setting too close to a nerve. He explained that if the nerve was hit during surgery that I wouldn't be able to move part of my face for 6 months or longer!?

They told me there was a risk of hitting that nerve which could permanently or temporarily paralyze part of my face but I think it was just a liability thing, something they have to warn you about.

still have mine in. the only problem I have is biting the back of the side of my mouth. which hurts like all kinds of hell eek lol

I'd still like to have mine out tho but hearing painful stories really scares me boxed my sister once told me I'd better set the alarm clock no matter how annoying it is or how much I want to sleep, so I can take the pain medication back to back to back at every amount per x number of hours because waiting for them to kick in once they've worn off will be the worst thing in life confused

oh yeah and I guess I should mention i've also gone out with friends during the night while during the day they've had their wisdoms taken out... shrug they were perfectly fine.

I had mine out the summer between high school and college. (It was a ritual in my family. Summer between high school and college, the wisdom teeth come out. Four kids, four times.) My parents had paid for a lot of expensive orthodontia over the years and didn't want it all undone over some wisdom teeth.

The teeth were impacted, so my parents took me to an oral surgeon. I had a wonderful general anesthesia (they even waited 'til after I was out to do the novacaine). I started waking up part way through - and heard what sounded like the surgeon chipping away at my jaw. It was probably just the tooth, though. shrug

Anyway, I woke up after it was over and my mom and the surgeon were bundling me out to the waiting room to come to a little more before we headed home. I had a prescription for Tylenol #3 - of which I took exactly two for pain before I just dropped back to plain old aspirin. (Kept the rest for recreational use later. lol ) I had almost no swelling - and no bruises, at all. I was on a liquid diet for about a week and started college 10 pounds thinner.

My only regret out of the whole thing is that the first solid food I ate was popcorn. I spent about a day trying to flush that mess out of the incisions. disbelief
