His character was dull.

His character was dull.I was wondering if that was the point. The movie gives Dillinger and Billie's love story the spotlight (however accurate that may have been in real life), but Melvin Purvis was pretty much a cypher. We knew absolutely nothing about him, whether he was involved with anyone, whether he was in the end a good or a bad man...nothing really came through. Even his Wikipedia page doesn't offer much to give you any idea of what he was really like.

Yeah, I was all over Wikipedia after the movie. I was like, what the hell, did Anna get to stay in the States or not? And Purvis "died by his own hand"? What? Wiki was a nice, quick way to get some fast answers, but based on what I read there, the movie bent the truth more than a little bit. Too bad, but it still made for a great story in the movie, and I'm now curious enough to want to read more about what really happened, especially about Purvis.

See, I didn't think the movie made Purvis and his guys more douchy. Yes, the scene where the fat guy was beating her was awful, but I never once felt sympathy for Depp. He was a coldblooded killer. As romantic as the bankrobber motif is, and as lovely as his romance with Billie was, I never rooted for him in any way. I thought the movie stayed very fair in that regard. No one was 100% innocent in all this.

That and the IMDB page for the movie, because there were like a dozen actors in there I recognized but could not remember their names.
