A GERMAN cannibal sliced up his willing victim and turned him into steaks, hamburgers and chipolata sausages that he froze to eat later, according to police.

Police said the cannibal captured much of the butchery on video, including the moment when he and his still living victim dined on the man’s penis, which according to some reports, they flambéed first.

The suspect, 41, a computer technician from the town of Rotenburg near Frankfurt, has told police he met his meal through an internet chatroom.

The killer said he became obsessed with the idea of being eaten after watching the Hollywood film The Silence of the Lambs, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter, a cannibalistic serial killer.

According to newspaper reports, the victim responded to an advert that read: "Seeking young, well-built 18- to 30-year-old for slaughter."

His victim was a gay man, aged 42, also a computer technician, from Berlin, who, according to his killer, had a morbid obsession to "be eaten alive".

"At least that is what the suspect says," said the state prosecutor in Kassel.

The police only caught the man when he put a new advert on the internet looking for another victim. Police said five men had responded.

Police have found frozen human flesh and bones at the suspect’s home, as well as the video recordings of the bizarre crime.

"There isn’t much evidence left," the state prosecutor said. "The accused has admitted to eating practically everything. He buried only skin, bone and hair."

Police believe the killing was committed in March last year.

"The deed appears to stem from cannibalistic and homosexual tendencies shared by both men," police said on Wednesday in a statement so grisly in its detail that the nation’s biggest selling newspaper, Bild, reprinted it word for word.

It was in the cellar that the chilling events unfolded.

"The accused supposedly first cut off the penis of the victim by mutual agreement because they wanted to eat it together," the statement said.

Police declined comment on reports that they first flambéed the organ in spirits, then, after tasting it, decided to fry it.

The suspect then killed his companion with deep cuts to the neck and chopped the body into pieces.

He made burgers out of shoulder flesh, steaks from the man’s buttocks and stews from his stomach and thighs. From his intestines he made tiny chipolata sausages. All the meat was put into freezer bags, which he carefully labelled and placed in his deepfreeze.

"It seems his practice was to take the flesh out as and when he felt hungry over the course of the next couple of years," the prosecutor said.

Bild’s giant front-page headline ran: "Cannibal Devours Berliner". To Germans, a Berliner is also a jam doughnut.

A police spokesman said yesterday the investigation was continuing.

"We’re watching the videotapes and searching his house. There are several tapes," he said.

Prosecutors have named neither the victim nor suspect, although they confirmed that the victim was on a list of missing persons in Berlin.

But the German media quoted investigators as identifying the dead man as "Bernd Juergen B" and the alleged killer as "Armin M".

They are not treating the alleged killer as insane. "He’s in normal custody at the moment. He is regarded as capable of standing trial," the Kassel prosecutor, Hans-Manfred Jung, commented.

Police are reviewing missing persons lists to try to determine if the accused might be responsible for other murders.

The German media reported that the arrest came after other internet users complained of the man’s on-line boasting of having committed the crime.

The killing revives memories of previous cases of cannibalism, both fictional and real, such as Hannibal Lecter, the serial murderer created by the author Thomas Harris.

The real-life American killer Jeffrey Dahmer was sentenced to several life terms for the murders of 17 young men and boys in a 13-year rampage of dismemberment and cannibalism. Dahmer was killed in prison in November 1994.

It is Germany’s second headline-grabbing murder case this year after a young couple were jailed in January for killing a friend and stabbing him 66 times in a Satanic ritual.

That trial fascinated Germany and Britain, where one of the killers initially developed her obsession, and gave the tabloids a field day with gruesome details of blood sucking and devil worship.

The last alleged case of cannibalism in Germany was in 1995 when a man, aged 33, facing charges of robbery and murder, claimed to have eaten the innards of his victim. His claim was never proven.

Scary stuff... you have to be careful with people you meet, especially on the internet that you don't know, even though you think you do. Awful...

Also, how does someone place an ad that reads "Wanted: ...good looking male...for slaughter". and GET A RESPONSE?!?! Often, it's all I can do to get a woman's phone number, let alone get consent for an experiment as horribly deranged and macabre as this...?

How stupid were the victims? it's not that mans fault that these men came over to be eaten. He left an ad on the internet and they replied. So they knew what they were getting into, but they still choose to go so they got what they asked for. Yeah I know what I'm saying is mean, but come on you read the same thing I did.

True the man is really sick for wanting to find out how people taste because of a movie, but the victim's were aware of what was going to happen.

Funny thing is, they perhaps won't even get that guy arrested for murder since his victim agreed to being killed and eaten. Today's papers here in Germany are saying that his lawyer expects him to be set free after 3 years - since the only crime he can be accused of is "manslaughter on demand" (I don't know the correct term in English, but you probably know what I mean). I keep on asking myself who the sicker person is - the cannibal for doing all that far out stuff or the victim for AGREEING to eating his own prick before getting killed.

The only reason this sounds so awful is because we can relate it so closely to a living human body.
If every time you ate a stake you had to kill the animal, hear it scream, gut it's innards, it's eyeballs, it's brain etc., get squirted with it's blood and fluids, you'd probably find this story far less gross. Instead we get delivered our meat as flesh in plastic containers.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a butcher, a vegetarian or anything like that, and I find this story absolutely gross!
