Hey, can you tell me where the floating market is relative to this map?
The one that you two want to go to? http://maps.google.co.th/...54324&z=13

The one that you two want to go to? http://maps.google.co.th/...54324&z=13 Just type in Damnoen Saduak and it'll take you right to it. It's in the opposite direction to Ayuthuya, but both are pretty close so the whole trip shouldn't be much more than 250 kms.

OK, I'm trying to work out the logistics of getting to Khao Sahn at 7 am right now. I think I would need to leave the house here at 5:30 ish to Mo Chit, then Mo Chit to National Stadium, then take a cab to Khao Sahn I assume we're going to Floating Market, then to Ayutthaya then back to Bangkok. Would you guys be able to drop me back off at Meung Ake or the Mo Chit train station? Both are near the Don Meaung Airport. , [Edited 7/11/09 19:13pm]

Imago said: Fauxie said: No thanks. 'seedy underbelly'... because you had no idea what you'd find there, or even that it was in what's basically the red light district! Oh, I knew what I would find. I just wasn't expecting it to accompany Paula Abdul. No seriously, it's not just Silom. It's everywhere here. Just underneath the hussle and bussle of the place...underneath all the charm and 'fun' of the people. There's something about Bangkok that will just eat you alive. I feel like quoting that "One Night In Bangkok Song" I realize now that you smoke not because you're addicted to it, but because you need to cope. I do know what you mean, but I've pretty much turned off that spidey sense. Reminds me of something vaguely Buddhist, about a mountain being just a mountain, then not just a mountain, but ultimately just a mountain again blah blah blah depending on your perspective and insight. Something like that Like Gulliver's in Khao San Road. At first it was a fun, safe and cozy western sports bar. Then it was a sinister, seedy cattle market with a shiny facade. Now it's both or neither, or everything. The charm and the fun of the people is inexorably linked to the seedy underbelly. It's all just the same thing, I think. Bangkok and its people are totally disingenuous if you look closely, but it's just good times and beautiful, warm people with perma-smiles if you're just happily oblivious. Bangkok can be really sinister and ruthless. There are lots of desperate people. And sad people. I don't like getting into all that these days, though at one time I lived in it.

I said to Mon we could just come and pick you up, but she thought that a bad idea since from here Nonthaburi is the complete opposite direction to the floating market. I don't think it would add more than 1 hour on to the journey though. Really, I think that might be easier. Otherwise, yeah, is it going to be really tricky? I don't see why we can't leave here at 6am and pick you up around 6:30am at home. We'd be back down again and leaving Bkk by 7am then anyway, traffic permitting. Yes, FM, back up to Ayuthuya, maybe stopping in Nakhon Pathom if there's anything interesting there, then back to Bkk. We can drop you back off in Nonthaburi, right? It's on the way back to ours.

I can easily get to KMV or Paragon and stand outside if that's easier. Khoa Sahn adds an extra cab ride. Coming up to Don Meaugn or Meung Ake is actually quite a stretch of the floating market is out west.

From us Paragon is 20.9 km and about 28 mins so I wonder factoring in traffic how different it would be. I'll ask Mon.

It's probably much worse for traffic to get to Don Meaung than it is for me to BTS from Mo Chit to Paragon. In other words, less trouble for me than it would be for you. Cause once you get to Don Meung, you'd have to circle back around, make it through morning traffic in Bangkok to get back out west. if I met you in Paragon it would just be a matter of getting out of bangkok. But then again, I don't really know this city like Mon does. I've yet to score with Danish girls after just 5 hours in the country. I'm not doing something right.

Mon says traffic won't be bad, so it sounds like a plan. You're not actually in Nonthaburi, are you? If you're near Don Mueng you're probably still in Bangkok. With the way the border lines go I think we're actually only a left at the market and a few kms north away from Nonthaburi, but it's such a vast area and it's hard to see where Bkk ends and these other places begin. I was thinking of where Max lives, near Bang Yai, but I see you're way east of that. He's easy to get to, just straight up from us along the western edge of Bkk. Wow, my understanding of this city's geography is awful.

Yesterday was a great day.
We I went and saw one of the famous floating markets in Thailand, where along the route we saw, baby aligators and a rather large (at least 3 or 4 feat in length) monitor lizard basking in the sun. I went with Fauxie and his wife, and we ended up renting a Van and making our way up to the ancient city of Ayutthaya and taking photos there. Then we hand dinner and drinks along the river and gossiped which one of your orgers sent us titty and cock shots. It was....amessing. Here are some pictures of the day: There are loads more on my facebook account for those of you interested. Click image below to go to photo album. http://www.danonderdonk.com/ayut/album/ I think they both have a crush on me. It's all just too embarassing. It must have been when we were taking turns singing Prince's trademark falsetto songs in our highest octaves. I don't think the Thai folks understood the pleasures of the experience, but it allowed me to exercise my vocal chords a bit.

We got really quite silly didn't we. Cheers for a great day. We totally DO both have a crush on you. Next time we'll have them kit the minivan out like a sordid sex den with all manner of contraptions.

It just dawned on me that you'd mentioned last night that you knew I had been reading Bangkok 8.
This of course, tells me that you've been stalking me. That's sooooo sweet (does anyone see what's obviously happening here?)
