Decent? No..... Fun? Yes.....maybe you'll get a map of some secret beach near Phi Phi..... Yes there are. Lots of hotels have sprung up on Khao and around the area. The Mango is pretty good now - very clean, hot shower, carpeted floors, just a regular hotel room really, for about 7 or 8 hundred baht a night. Or the Buddy hotel is supposed to be pretty nice, for a thousand or two a night. Not sure Dan would really want to stay in that area though. . [Edited 7/1/09 19:11pm]

Buddy Lodge is alright. http://www.buddylodge.com/roomrate.php 2,000 a night. Personally I wouldn't pay over a thousand unless I was having a romantic getaway with the missus. In the islands you can get a two-floor place for under 2k and in Khao San there are decent rooms for 800 or less. But then, I used to stay in Lek Guesthouse on Khao San with shared bathroom, fan only and lots of roaches, for around 250 baht a night. Actually, I lived with Mon in the old Mango guesthouse for a month and our room was about a foot wider than a very slim single bed. Over-priced at effectively 67 baht a night.

We couldn't decide if we were going to rent an apartment or move back to the family house so we just stayed there where she worked for a month. She was paying 2,000 a month for it. It was like a damn sauna, two people in this tiny room with a single bed and small fan. I felt dirty all the time every day and my face was covered in pimples. I remember seeing a room upstairs where there were needles out on the window ledge. That's the old Mango. They knocked that thing down and built a hotel. Found a pic from the old Mango. Really can't see the full squalor and dark and damp and cockroaches though. [Edited 7/1/09 19:31pm]

The maid greeted me and told me (I think) I need to eat lunch She doesn't understand that she's really at risk of making me puke. Your wife is entertaining as hell. She got those Danish girls who had been in the country 5 hours to sit with us and drink that foul blue gasoline tasting drink I'm looking at the pic I took with those 2 Thai girls in that pub we ended up at. It looks sooooo myspace angle but with drunk Thai girls thrown in for good measure I'm so glad my Simon had to pull out on me tonight. Cause the thought of beer makes me want to totally vomit right now. As you say, "Hell to Mai chai" I don't care how hot a piece of ass your friends are.....a man needs quiet time at home to exfoliate. Seriously, it was great fun. You're very easy to talk to, and your eyes have an amazing ability to be piercing blue even as they get more and more bloodshot.

Funny as hell. Those Kamikazes tasted like lemon scented detergent. I'm glad I had only the one, but Mon and those girls had that whole jug. And the Shisha stuff, which just suddenly arrived at the table without warning. You took the pic with the girls in Gullivers? In the western sports bar, I mean. @ my bloodshot eyes. I have some pics but not a lot, and I look really, really rough in them. You look alright though, but I'm sure I ever want them to see the light of day! You're such a gossip whore. Also very, very cool. We both thought you were awesome. And very perceptive. And apparently a keen observer of beautiful people.

It wasn't awkward. Dan was so easy to get on with. I'm a bit shy so it took me some time to really feel comfortable but he was easy to talk to so it didn't take long. Mon said she was nervous before we got there but as usual she was the life and soul and up to her usual crazy shenanigans before long. I actually thought she was plastered by about 4pm yet she was still there drinking to the end. Meeting Dan in person is definitely way better than just being on the receiving end of that awful bat dick joke. He's very charming.

It does look like I was arguing with Mon doesn't it. That thing about chopping you up and putting you in a bag and chucking it in the river I don't even remember saying!
