scariest movie ive seen is The Exorcist..Not gory..just scary. Definately the scariest...her face and voice freak me out I refuse to ever watch that alone nor in the dark. This goes for Exorcism of Emily Rose as well I find exorcism and possession hard to watch.

That being said, I never saw it as a kid. I was seeing news reports of people running out of the theaters, shaking and balling their eyes out...before the movie had even ended. It wasn't until "The Version You've Never Seen" came out on DVD that I finally decided, at age 32, to buy it and watch it. STILL creeped me the F out! But I figured if I'm going to watch it, I might as well see the whole version. I've only watched it once after that. I was 32 in 2000, so you do the math on that one.

I would also say Requiem For A Dream and Irreversible, but those lean more toward just plain disturbing rather than scary. irreversible is probably the most disturbing film i've ever seen, and not in any way that i would necessarily recommend. it's not a poorly done film by any means, but....JEEEEZUS. Isn't that the film where Monica Bellucci gets raped for, like, ten minutes straight in an unbroken shot, then gets her face smashed into the pavement? Yeah, I think I'll pass.

I watched it as a kid, I think I was ten or eleven, maybe twelve years old ? My dad´s friend, who was into all kinds of horror movies, brought this film to our place one evening and thought it would be a good idea for a little family gathering to watch this film and eat some potato chips and drink a few soft drinks and just chill. He actually wanted to rent "The Evil Dead" but that was no longer available back then because it was banned during the 1980s ( in Germany ). Anyway, so this man comes to visit us with his family, we all sat down in the living room, had potato chips, popcorn, fruits, soft drinks and all kinds of snacks on the table, and him and his wife were chatting with my parents before the film started, and the rest is just a memory of one of the weirdest evenings of my childhood. You should have seen my parents´ reaction. The same dude was also into Spiderman comics and sometimes he would lend some comics from me and only bring back half of the book, torn into pieces, because he hadn´t finished the other half. Weird guy, weird times. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I appreciate the Exorcist as a great film/story, but it never scared me or gave me a single nightmare.
I wish it had. I've been watching horror films since the age of 6, when I saw original Halloween/original release at the movie theater. (2nd movie ever, first was Snow White ) Maybe this is why I'm so hard on movies not being scary.

I wish it had. Same here...now that I remember..I thought she was pretty cool imo. I used to be like, "damn I wish I can fly in the air and curse people out" when I was little I used to try to be in bed and levitate and turn my head around and make my eyes go in my head never scared me at all. Now THIS MOVIE SCRED THE BAJEEZUS out of me "The Secret Life Of Dahmer" Jesus Christ..it is still disturbing to this day The clips I just watched it again still haunts me. I really want to see Irreversible and Sodom..those look magnifying. That Other movie in black and white with no dialogue looks incredibly weird! Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Mute Witness and Inside arrived over the weekend. Can't wait to watch them this week!

We watched "Inside" tonight! (someone mentioned it on this thread didn't they? Whoever it was thankyouthankyouthankyou!)
Anyway: One of the most intense, "shocking", and just BEST horror movies I've ever seen. Béatrice Dalle and Alysson Paradis act the shit out of this movie. Did I mention INTENSE??? Four months after her husband's tragic death, Sarah (Alysson Paradis) prepares to head to the hospital to deliver her miracle baby. But what should be a blessed Christmas Eve event turns terrifying when a crazed woman (Béatrice Dalle) arrives at her home intent on taking Sarah's baby. Taking up whatever sharp implement at hand, the psychotic woman relentlessly pursues the pregnant Sarah, determined to perform a grisly brand of C-section. OMG and watch the dvd extras. The directors... I just PRAY there won't be an American remake. I doubt the censors will allow the end scene to remain as in the original. [Edited 6/29/09 19:04pm]

I also forgot to add this one to the suggestions:
Late one night, Lucas (Michaël Cohen) and Clémentine (Olivia Bonamy) encounter strange events in their remote country home. It starts with prank calls and strange noises, but when the power is cut off and their car disappears, the terrified couple is trapped by the unseen force. Is it simply kids from the school where Clémentine teaches, or could it have something to do with a mother and daughter who mysteriously vanished the day before? It is similar to "The Strangers" (for a while rumored to be the original version because it was released earlier), but better IMO.

"Badland" -- it's so dark, it's almost abusive... to the viewer.

scariest movie ive seen is The Exorcist..Not gory..just scary. Ok EVERYONE I RENTED Salo and Irreversible. I watched Irreversible last night It was good. The moving all the time made me kind of [nausous] however I thought it was well acted and well made. The "scene" was pretty gritty. However that was the only basis of the film. After that..it kind of went downhill as in a real storyline. Had this been played in regular motion I think it would have had more of an effect on me..gritty but not too disturbing.... (2nd movie ever, first was Snow White ) Maybe this is why I'm so hard on movies not being scary. Sweetas I hear yah babes. I first watched the Exorcist when I was 5 years old and it truly frightened me, so brutal but on the other hand my bro, sis and best mate aren't scared so easily and can watch it with ease (whilst I'm hiding behind pillows and the couch). As an adult watching the redux version that included the spider walk scene freaked me out all over again... As stated in another post the only movie that disturbed my bro was Salo and also Requiem For A Dream due to the content whereas I can watch Requiem and it won't disturb me but my bro doesn't even want it in the same room as him. Different strokes for different folks huh...
