It depends on the bag. Not so much designer, its quality.

Not really into the shiny bags, or thingys handing from it.

I've tried the cheap bags and it doesn't make sense to me to buy 10 of them at 50 bucks a pop when I can just have 2 each at 250 bucks and they go with everything and last longer. the cheap bags fade in color, the zippers break, they can't hold much, don't have enough pockets, the straps wear down. Nothing worse than cheap bags and cheap shoes. confused

I really like the 2nd one! nod

I agree completely. That first one is a total rip of a Jimmy Choo handbag and just looking at that pic I can see that it's inferior quality which matters to me. I really like that second one tho. love I love my purple Dior to death and wouldn't mind owning the yellow python one and could have if it wasn't for my shoe issues. pout

Most of my handbag collection consists of Prada and Louis Vuitton. A friend of mine and my aunty are resellers of original bags so I purchase them at wholesale prices. I never ever pay retail.

I love my purple bag but the yellow one is much more vivid in person. I think it was the flash or something because it's really not neutral at all it's more like a banana yellow. Gorgeous in person. love

I've done in the ballpark of $250 a few times, both for myself and my wife. And I won't front -- it typically has as much to do with the brand as the "quality." rolleyes

I would generally discourage such foolery, though. I'm trying to exorcize myself of it.

Personaly...I DONT pay for designer names.

I pay for qaulity..how it looks, but mostly how it FEELS. I love a soft buttery leather. & it HAS to have a pocket for my cell phone & lots of zippered compartments.

in otherwords..it has to be functional. smile

I don't pay for designer bags BECAUSE of the brand name. I buy designer bags and shoes because I like the design aesthetic and level of quality of specific designers. If that's not your thing fine, but to just assume that the ONLY reason someone would buy a designer bag is because of the name or to impress somebody is kinda silly. Besides, aside from my Gucci bags, my most expensive bags don't even have a logo on them so no one would even know what kind of bag it is unless they got all up on the hardware to see who the designer is. Different strokes . . . shrug

touch it, check the seams- inside and out, scratch it, pull it, shake it, make sure the color doesn't run, swing it around to make sure the strap is secure etc.

most cheap bags don't survive this rigorous test.

That might not be what you buy them for and it's understandable in what you said but most people do buy for those reasons...i've seen it 1st hand on multiple ocassions.

I wouldn't, only if I was a millionaire and had nothing else to spend my money on! You can buy GREAT bags in the high street, and who's to know if they cost thousands or not, it's about style not price ... no one can buy style... wink

In some ways I'm slightly more shallow than you here, but I agree that when I buy for brand, it's almost never to show off. I despise visible logos (except for maybe Le coq sportif's smile) and items that give themselves away as from a certain designer. I have to admit, though, that sometimes I personally get off on knowing something is of a certain brand. If, for example, I see leather duffle bags -- identical design, quality, etc. -- from, say, Banana Republic and some Walmart house brand, I'd buy the former, because I've generally come to love that brand. I guess in that way I'm a label whore. boxed But I don't feel the need to announce it to the world.
