Anyone had hernia surgery? How long did you stay sore after the surgery? Had mine repaired yesterday. Pretty damn sore. The doc gave me plenty of tabs though. If you're not doing the fucking, then you're taking one.

What type?
I had an incisional hernia repaired last year. It was a pretty big one. They had to pull the muscles back together and they're now held by mesh. I was in the hospital for about a week. I had more discomfort and tightness than actual pain. Full recovery took a few weeks. [Edited 6/18/09 12:26pm]

He had to put some synthetic material in there. You must have been pretty bad to stay a week. If you're not doing the fucking, then you're taking one.

For some reason, the first week of stomach surgery (this happened with the one which ended up causing the hernia) is hell for me. Lots of nausea, and throwing up. Plus they don't let you go home till you've...pooped and everything is "working". Diva...why I oughta...

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Don't be nervous hon. I was in the hospital for a week (as I was the time before when they removed 3 enlarged lymph nodes that were pinching my bowel...that SUCKED ), mostly because of not keeping anything down, extreme nausea and such. I made myself get out of bed both times the next day and walk down the halls. I think it's more how I recover from stomach surgery than anything that would be the norm. Also, mine was spread a bit wider, if you can believe it. I was like when the doc drew me a diagram. I am fine now. My surgeon advised I not do very heavy lifting if I can help it. As far as I was told, the procedure I had (mesh inserted) is supposed to have a lesser rate of hernia reoccurance. I won't take chances and try to be mindful of what I lift, but everything else is normal activity. I'm sure she will be fine.

It took about two and half days before I could really walk. What hurt the most was laughing. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

my baby had one, they don't bother with surgery on a kid unless it's bigger than a lemon! Fixed itself in the end

I had an incisional hernia repaired a couple of years ago. It took a couple of weeks to heal. The pain sucked, especially when I coughed or laughed. The worst part, though? The painkillers give you wicked constipation. So you can't go for a while, and then when you do actually go, it's really hard and you're terrified of ripping open your stitches. That was awful.

This is so true. I skipped my pain killers for the most part as much as possible. I just can't deal with Percacet. Did they give you a "hug pillow"? It was basically towels rolled up,taped together into a small square and made into a VERY STIFF pillow. I grabbed on to mine for dear life when I coughed or sneezed...or laughed or pooped. Lemme photowhore my hernia repair scar. Are u in any pain still? No, no pain. Every now and then I get a bit of "tightness". The surgeon said there would be chance of discomfort. It is just on occasion and not painful. I lost (minimal also) a bit of sensitivity along the scar (if I run my fingers down it), but who cares? It's not like it's a part of my body I use to do things with.
