renting an apartment

Can someone find an apartment without a job?
Even if they have over a year and a halfs rent?

no, not yet, my mom is driving me MADDDDD! Besides, I'm too old to be at home....I need to find a place...I should be good for close to two years. I think that should be good enough...but I know they are strict nowadays...

Good question.

I wonder if a credit check will do for a "reference".

I'm surprised your mom is making you move out if you don't yet have a job. It might be a genius plan to make you become more independent though.

yes, I do think I need to be more independent, but I just think I need this in my life right now...personal space.

It's hard finding a job though... sad I'm better off joining the army or donating myself to science.

You can find something, but it takes some persistance and sometimes creative approaches to discover the job. Ask your friends and relatives about their jobs, or other jobs they see at their jobs.

I remember back in the day, my sister was studying to be a nurse and she told me about portering. (I never did it, but the point is I didn't know about the job before).

Another thing I did between jobs was temping. Sometimes I found places that wanted to hire me after my assignment.

I think that would all depend on the landlord.

Maybe you can work something out. But please don't tell the landlord or their real estate agent that you have a year & 1/2. Perhaps you can offer the first three months in advance besides the 1mth deposit? If that's a go be sure it's written into your lease. That you've paid 1mth deposit and three mths rent (state the months involved) in advance.

Then look for a job! As Cinnie stated...try temp work.

Good luck!

I have half a mind to do that, I have lots in savings, but I'm just going to travel and look for another job and once I have that and I know for sure I love the job this time instead of faking it, then I'll go.

Without a job or steady income you would most likely need a co signer for the lease, I really doubt very many landlords would rent to someone without a job cause if something happened and you didn't have money it cost a pretty penny to get someone evicted with lawyer fees and such.

The market is so bad in Chicago right now they didn't even ask my son for ID.
eek He found a loft over on Fullerton near Bucktown and he just gave her the money.

Seriously, with houses being foreclosed left and right and empty apt after empty apt sitting unrented, landlords are advertising...no credit check..just bring the deposit. Suburb homes are now listed on Section 8.

Some good advice here though. thumbs up!

Shit, not in my city. The housing market is still going up in certain areas, or just staying the same.
