New Balance IS the running shoe. I would suggest going to a New Balance store (not just a Foot Locker or somewhere they sell all brands). When I lived in Chicago I went there and they ask you what are you wearing it for, etc. If you can, bring your other gym shoes with you, then they can see where/how they're worn down which will help them.

also, i try to support the companies in my neighborhood first before i shop in someone elses neighborhood. i like supporting local businesses. also, krispy kremes because i think theyre plain weird, gaudy and disgusting. This is huge for me Local everything IF possible

New Balance is probably considered the premier running shoe for most people. The cool thing about New Balance stores is that that they sell shoes you can't find in the malls and shoe stores. Many of their brands are American-made and manufactured shoes (you have to ask the clerk). Reebok has a few shoes that are American made too. They're pricey compared to the others. I bought a pair for $120 which doesn't sound astronomical, but the comparable Mexican-made model was $80 to $90 bucks. New Balance will run between $60 and 300+ bucks depending on what you're looking for. My friend, Chris (not to be confused with the lesser Chris here on the org), is a marathon runner, and he uses only New Balance shoes. For those of you who can't afford a 100+ dollar pair of shoes, buy a pair of $20 insoles and you'll get far greater support for your shoe than even the pricier models on the market. . [Edited 6/16/09 11:00am] I looked it up and they sell them at the store I bought my last pair at. I just know last time I tried on about 15 pairs of shoes and the nikes I picked out were like heaven. The second I put them on I knew they were the ones for me. (I never would have considered them otherwise, I think they're hideous looking. But then, I think all athletic shoes are freaking ugly as heck.) And I'm willing to spend up to $150-ish if it's the right shoe. That's not as important to me. I will absolutely try everything else first next time I need shoes. |

New Balance is the bomb Carrie. I have only bought them for at least the last ten years. Plus, the NB store here will give you ten bucks towards a new pair if you bring in an old pair to recycle.

The Warehouse (NZ's answer to Walmart) as they source their products from sweat shop labourers and child slaves in China, its unethical, also as the stuff is mostly badly made and falls apart after a while.
I also avoid KFC now as they use Soya bean oil grown on Brazilian plantations that use slave and child labour and also have been carved out of Amazonian rainforest. Won't buy Starbucks coffee as its crap and overpriced Try to avoid any products tested on animals Avoid Japanese food products because of their stance on whaling Avoid Bed and Beyond as they use cotton picked by Uzbekistani child labourers. As you can see I am a strong advocate of the rights of children and animals. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

You're not contributing to starvation and unemployment. Boycotting a company's products because you disagree with their use of sweatshop labour is a 2 step process. You boycott, and you let the company know that's why you're doing it. Where did people work before Nike shoved it's way into local economies? It's not as if jobs were non-existent until that point. anyway Now that it was brought to my attention: Shell Dominoes-I don't like them anyway Borders-I used to like. They are really open and liberal to same sex issues and rights but they are extremely racist. Ive experienced it first hand. I can't understand how they can be both. DeBeers-Nuf said

Well I should just say the Borders on state street. The management-not the employees beneath them were highly racist. I'll just say a person I know was passed over many times for people who had just come in and were automatically promoted. So when I step into a Borders I don't feel entirely excited to be there

The only makeup products I wear are by Chanel, YSL or Dior. All others can go suck it, especially MAC and Napoleon Perdis.
Basically I go for quality first and not price, with everything.

I agree about standards/budgets. I used to do makeup and am a big advocate of if you can afford it, certain brands really do make GREAT products (Like the Holy Trinity you mentioned). Hey if I was a girl and was low on cash, I probably would skip a lunch or two for that lipstick.

It's amazing the differences of quality when it comes to makeup, I've been using the 'holy trinity' for a few years now and can't go back to other brands. As a makeup artist I used to get "gratis" products. The only cheap makeup on my face was usually eyeliner (L'oreall liquid) and foundation (Max Factor pan stick, cuz it's like the heaviest shit out there to cover up any shadow, I so don't recommend it for real women ). I always see Clinique as high-end for teens.
