My wife was working for the Body Shop in 1995 when Ken Saro-Wiwa was being detained by The Nigerian military government. The company campaigned to raise awareness of the injustice of his imprisonement and highlight Shells complicity in the events. I can still remember my wife bringing home a fax with the news that he had been executed Watching him speak on the video at the 2 minute mark you see part of the man Oil I hate buying fucking petrol If you havent watched the video take 8 minutes out of your day to honour Ken Saro-Wiwa RIP http://wiwavshell.org/wiw...ettlement/ looks like Shell got out its large Cheque book (just in case anyone thought it was a conspiracy against poor old Shell) What you don't remember never happened

Shawnt26 said: K-Mart. Back in 2000, I had just bought a computer game from K-Mart. I took it home to discover one of the CDs were cracked. I took the game to K-Mart so I can exchange it for a working copy. As I enter the store, the first thing I do is go to the customer service desk. The employee took a look at my receipt/game and told me to go back to the software section, pick up another copy of the game, and bring it back to the customer service desk. I do as I am told. The customer service rep gives me back my receipt and tells me to have a good day.
I exited to store and get to my car when I heard "Store Security! Store Security!". I see these two older men in plain clothes run towards me. One of guards pushes me up against the car as the other takes my game and the receipt. They proceeded to handcuff me. One of the security guards stated that "He watched me pick up the game and walk straight out of the store without paying". I told him if he was really following me he would have seen me stop at the Customer Service desk twice to trade my game. I told them to go talk to the Customer Service rep. One of the security guards headed inside, while I stood, handcuffed, outside with the other guard. The guard asked me, "You know why we're doing this right?". I replied back, "Yeah. Sure." The other dumbass guard comes back out and said that my story checks out. They unhandcuffed me, gave me back my game, and told me to "Have a nice day". I was furious. I haven't stopped in any K-Mart since that happened. I got a lawyer and tried to sue. First, K-Mart offered me $800.00 to be quiet. My lawyer said to not accept the offer and hold off. K-Mart then proceeded to deny that nothing ever occurred that day. At the start of the case, my lawyer was aggressive, but then he seemed to lose steam so nothing ever happened with the case. However, I do know the two security guards were fired. That is all that really matters to me. It's a shame they got away with that behaviour . With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

i won't buy nike. i just plain won't do it. part of it is out of conscience, and part of it is the asthetic - i think they're the most shameless abuser of branding i can think of, and every time i see a friend wearing something with a nike swoosh, i always wanna say "i love you to death, but..." and rip that shit right off their body, because they deserve more than being a walking billboard for those fuckers. and yeah, i know...we all end up wearing SOMEone's logo sooner or later...it's just that nike is so nastily ubiquitous, i hate them. and no more rockstar energy drinks, cuz them shits are nothing but a big can of homophobia...which sucks, because i did like their pomegranate and mango energy drinks. but oh well. generally speaking, i won't shop at walmart. there were a few family emergencies a few years back when walmart was the only thing around and i had to loosen up my ideals a little for the sake of more immediate concerns, but those days are passed. now that i can make more comfortable choices again, i won't go near a walmart. i won't order from dominos, though i'm not sure if the whole thing about them being owned by evil satan white supremist wackos was an urban legend or what. all's i know for a fact is their pizza sucks. oh, and i hate pepsi. not for any political reason, just because it tastes like some kind of syrupy chemical bullshit. and i don't know who the pepsi corporation thinks enjoys diet pepsi, because that stuff is just plain vile. oh, and the day i will put a stitch of ed hardy clothing on my body is the day you can call the nice men with the butterfly nets to come take me away, because i think those are the ugliest clothes in the universe. oh my god, razzing on brands i hate is FUN!!

When I began running this year I tried on about 15 pairs of running shoes and it's a pair of Nikes that won out as the most comfortable. They are like walking/running on air. But if it's going to make me cry when I hear why I shouldn't be supporting them, I'll try to find another brand when these are worn out. |

I can't say that I necessarily avoid any one BRAND, since when I shop I'm looking for prices, not brands.
That being said; I do not buy GAP jeans anymore because (even though they cost more than Levi's) they always rip at the knees for me. So I stick to Levi's. When I buy shoes (dress shoes specifically) I will NOT buy an expensive pair if it says Made In China. Sorry. I mean, when my wife buys shoes for the kids at Payless I pretty much expect them to be made in China or Guatemala or something. But when I walk into Macy*s and pick a pair of $120.00 Calvin Klein or Steve Madden shoes and they say Made In China inside...I put them back. Which is why it's been YEARS since I've bought a pair of shoes there. For $120 I want them to say Made in Italy or Made in Brazil (Made in USA would be nice, but I haven't seen American-made shoes since I was a teen). PurpleJedi said: DevotedPuppy said: Duracell batteries. why? When I was in high school, they had a series of television commercials featuring "humans" that ran on batteries in their backs. If they didn't have Duracell the humans ran out of energy. One commercial was set at an art museum. The family was there, looking at "weird" modern-looking art, they had Duracell batteries in their backs. The museum security guard had the generic or competitor brand, it went dead, he fell asleep (presumably from boredom as well as a dead battery) while standing up, fell over, knocking over a sculpture and generally created a ruckus. At this point the little boy says, "Gee mom, the museum can be fun." I didn't like how they were perpetuating the idea that museums (especially those that show modern or contemporary art) were boring; unless some sort of slapstick, physical accident happened. Since then I've probably purchased Duracell batteries less than 5 times. I'll even buy the shitty, generic store brand that I know is going to die in half the time rather than give my money to Duracell. It probably seems like a silly reason, but as someone who has always loved going to museums, I didn't like that commercial one bit. . [Edited 6/15/09 21:32pm]

walmart = i am strongly against this company and have actually encourage people not to shop there in my immediate circle. thankfully i have no need to go there, since i live in an area where theres pretty much none around. i don't like their business practices and i especially don't like how they barge into communities and kill the color of a local neighborhood along with the local businesses.
also, i try to support the companies in my neighborhood first before i shop in someone elses neighborhood. i like supporting local businesses. also, krispy kremes because i think theyre plain weird, gaudy and disgusting.

American Apparel, because founder Dov Charney is a slimeball. He's got several accusations and at this point even legal charges of sexual harassment of female staff. The porn-style ads are skeezy. He once made a public statement that domestic abuse victims deserve what they get. I really wanted to support this company because of their anti-sweatshop stance but I feel like I'd be condoning Charney's grossness by giving money to them. Nike and The Gap. They both make use of sweatshop labour, and don't even bother to deny it anymore since they have the legal clout and finances to fight anyone who opposes them. And since Nike bought out Converse I won't be buying any more Cons once the pair I have now wear out. Bugger, those are great shoes. Coca-Cola. Violent, strongarm tactics in union busting, particularly in South America, which HAVE resulted in deaths. American Eagle, because of known racist hiring policies, at least in the U.S. I can't for ethical reasons support any of these corporations If anyone has any information on other companies with ethical issues, feel free to post here. I Wha ? whats so great about Conversre chucks ? they quite simple aint they? I boycott Amercian Apparel for the reasons you mansioned above and i also boycott nike and Snapples and Walmart and of course everything by Monsanto. I used to boycott Mc Ds butt these days i drink theyre coffee sometimes . alsoo starbucks cuz theyre shitt is nasty . sure mc d s is also nastay butt at elast cheap ! Savages son is a racist pig and can kiss my hairy ass ! i also boycott anything by anoyne who pollutes the envirenment. by the way , i dig your political stance. Converse are so amazing! Comfy, stylish (in a hipster sort of way) and they last forever. Not to mention, they come in so many colours and styles. My current -and sadly, final -pair is printed all over with the Batman logo. God damn Nike, buying them out.... "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
