Ex-Moderator | Domino's Pizza - because of political causes they support. And I wouldn't eat their pizza anyway. BLEH.
Snapple - same as above. And BLEH too. I also don't shop at WalMart. Most of the companies I don't like politically I wouldn't support cause I don't like their products anyway, like the above. |

I will not buy anything from Walmart. Their prices are right for good reason.
I will buy what they sell from other places.

I assuage my corporate guilt by buying secondhand and/or relying on locally produced goods as much as possible. Two of the biggest corporate evils (IMO) are Nestle and Monsanto and it seems they have their hands in almost everything. Depending on one's shopping habits, it can be difficult to avoid products that they don't have their claws in, so rather than stressing so much over what not to buy, I take a more minimalist approach to what I do buy.
And I hate Wal*Mart. Even if it were the most family friendly and ethical company out there, I hate the environment there and avoid it like the plague. I swear Wal*Mart brings out the debbil in people. It's like the third layer of hell. With flourescent lighting. Murica: at least it's not Sudan.

A story was run on its company policies, everything from not paying employees decent wages to using state funds to build stores and never giving back to the communities. The family that runs Walmart does noting for the environment, give nothing to help causes, they just keep their billions.

American Apparel, because founder Dov Charney is a slimeball. He's got several accusations and at this point even legal charges of sexual harassment of female staff. The porn-style ads are skeezy. He once made a public statement that domestic abuse victims deserve what they get. I really wanted to support this company because of their anti-sweatshop stance but I feel like I'd be condoning Charney's grossness by giving money to them. Nike and The Gap. They both make use of sweatshop labour, and don't even bother to deny it anymore since they have the legal clout and finances to fight anyone who opposes them. And since Nike bought out Converse I won't be buying any more Cons once the pair I have now wear out. Bugger, those are great shoes. Coca-Cola. Violent, strongarm tactics in union busting, particularly in South America, which HAVE resulted in deaths. American Eagle, because of known racist hiring policies, at least in the U.S. I can't for ethical reasons support any of these corporations If anyone has any information on other companies with ethical issues, feel free to post here. I Wha ? whats so great about Conversre chucks ? they quite simple aint they? I boycott Amercian Apparel for the reasons you mansioned above and i also boycott nike and Snapples and Walmart and of course everything by Monsanto. I used to boycott Mc Ds butt these days i drink theyre coffee sometimes . alsoo starbucks cuz theyre shitt is nasty . sure mc d s is also nastay butt at elast cheap ! Savages son is a racist pig and can kiss my hairy ass ! i also boycott anything by anoyne who pollutes the envirenment. by the way , i dig your political stance.

K-Mart. Back in 2000, I had just bought a computer game from K-Mart. I took it home to discover one of the CDs were cracked. I took the game to K-Mart so I can exchange it for a working copy. As I enter the store, the first thing I do is go to the customer service desk. The employee took a look at my receipt/game and told me to go back to the software section, pick up another copy of the game, and bring it back to the customer service desk. I do as I am told. The customer service rep gives me back my receipt and tells me to have a good day.
I exited to store and get to my car when I heard "Store Security! Store Security!". I see these two older men in plain clothes run towards me. One of guards pushes me up against the car as the other takes my game and the receipt. They proceeded to handcuff me. One of the security guards stated that "He watched me pick up the game and walk straight out of the store without paying". I told him if he was really following me he would have seen me stop at the Customer Service desk twice to trade my game. I told them to go talk to the Customer Service rep. One of the security guards headed inside, while I stood, handcuffed, outside with the other guard. The guard asked me, "You know why we're doing this right?". I replied back, "Yeah. Sure." The other dumbass guard comes back out and said that my story checks out. They unhandcuffed me, gave me back my game, and told me to "Have a nice day". I was furious. I haven't stopped in any K-Mart since that happened. I got a lawyer and tried to sue. First, K-Mart offered me $800.00 to be quiet. My lawyer said to not accept the offer and hold off. K-Mart then proceeded to deny that nothing ever occurred that day. At the start of the case, my lawyer was aggressive, but then he seemed to lose steam so nothing ever happened with the case. However, I do know the two security guards were fired. That is all that really matters to me.

Hmmm, I have gone to Fantastic Sam's before and other than them not knowing how to cut my son's hair, I didn't have a problem Their customer service was fine, but I think hairstylists should learn to style ALL hair, not just one type. Smooches;) [Edited 6/14/09 19:22pm]

What I hate about Fantastic Sams, Supercuts, and the ilk is just how terrible the service can actually be. I've had to get a few haircuts there lately, and the service at each place was just horrible. For a few more bucks (ok, for 2 to 3 times as much ), you can go to a Salon where they are professional, courteous, bring you coffee and magazines, and pretty much give you everything but a reach-around, to include a stellar hairdo.
