Companies you WON'T BUY PRODUCTS from,... and why?

?

There are certain cosmetic companies I won't buy products from cause of their use of animal testing for what boils down to vanity products.

But I notice , from meoe85's post about American Apparel, that many folks actually do this kind of selective purchasing based on a company's behavior.

THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL DISCUSSION. ALL I'm TRYING TO FIND OUT IS WHAT COMPANIES YOU WON'T PURCHASE FROM AND WHY:

I won't purchase products from Balenciaga, but only because I can't afford them giggle

If I could, I would smile

I try to not buy products from Prince and some other companies too, mainly ones that are attached to right wing parties.

I inspired a thread! touched

American Apparel, because founder Dov Charney is a slimeball. He's got several accusations and at this point even legal charges of sexual harassment of female staff. The porn-style ads are skeezy. He once made a public statement that domestic abuse victims deserve what they get. I really wanted to support this company because of their anti-sweatshop stance but I feel like I'd be condoning Charney's grossness by giving money to them.

Nike and The Gap. They both make use of sweatshop labour, and don't even bother to deny it anymore since they have the legal clout and finances to fight anyone who opposes them. And since Nike bought out Converse I won't be buying any more Cons once the pair I have now wear out. Bugger, those are great shoes. pout

Coca-Cola. Violent, strongarm tactics in union busting, particularly in South America, which HAVE resulted in deaths.

American Eagle, because of known racist hiring policies, at least in the U.S.

I can't for ethical reasons support any of these corporations

If anyone has any information on other companies with ethical issues, feel free to post here. I

DOW Chemicals because of the people they're responsible for killing and grossly inadequately compensating (only after litigation) in Baupal India.

The problem is I have no clue who's actually related to DOW or affiliated with them. Also the Cancer rate in India is through the roof due to fertilizers and pesticides. NPR ran and article on it.

FORD cars because they had tremendously shitty service for my mom. I had to call her service center up and cuss out 3 of the managers. Her car was fixed and ready to go 1 hour after that incident despite sitting in the shop 3 days with no updates to her, prior.

FORD. SUCKS.

OK, actually maybe Ford doesn't suck. But from personal experience, the shop was so bad, it tainted my view of the entire company.

hmmm

I wonder where one could go about finding information on this. Though IMO even if it's just an affiliation DOW should still hold some responsibility.

Bad customer service isn't really an ethical issue.

YES, but I'm not really looking for political or ethical issues on this thread. It's fine if that's the reason folks come up with not dealing with a company.

But I'm just in general trying to assess companies people don't like to deal with and why whether they are political, ethical, or just personal.

Hey, you didn't make an grammatical errors! touched

The internet really has been a great tool for accessing information not so readily available from traditional media outlets.

That shit isn't REAL yogurt. It's whey protein mixed with chemicals, color, and sugar.

She's the host of Democracy Now http://www.democracynow.org

She also has a podcast. It's a 'liberal' news cast, but it doesn't pretend not to be. She has no intentions of showing she' fair and balanced lol

But she ask tough questions of both the right and the left; hence, pissing off Bill Clinton.

I do think she gives Dennis Cusinich(sp?) a free pass often though.

But she was reporting Black Water 2 years before news broke on CNN.

Amazon.com- I refuse to buy anything from them. I used to,but then I read how they sell books, and video's on dog fighting. How the hell is that legal? People get sent to jail for actually doing it,but there isn't a problem with supplying the means of how to go about doing it? disbelief
