Superhero's Vs Religion

In a few thousand years, will Bats and Supes and the like be the new Gods?

Look at the cultural impact right now (t-shirts in the high street, the interest alone etc). If we're wiped out and some comics or DVD's are dug up and translated in the distant future? what then? No disrespect intended, but will Clark and Bruce replace Jesus and Allah?

Wrong forum? maybe not!

Yoda, Vader, The Force, Kirk, Uhura & Starfleet are all contenders too, it really needs to be acknowledged, it might come true! lol

will this thread always exist? Probably. somewhere. Weird or what?

In India, there are comic books depicting the stories of the Ramayana and Mahabarata...

For example:

We already have figures like Thor, Loki, Hercules in Marvel and DC...

So religion -> comics, has always been going on...

I think comics -> religion will happen too. nod

True, and Luke kissing Leia is some sick Old Testament type of stuff.

Yoda's dialogue in Empire Strikes Back would fit perfectly in some sacred text!

"Do or do not! There is no try!"

"Wars not make one great!"

I thought about that too, but Superman and Batman sprung out of the depression in the 1930's, that's not like yesterday.

Long fad.

Isn't mythology just a bunch of super heros and villians when you think about it. Look how long that has lasted.

that's what superhero stories/characters are, really. characters in morality plays just like ancient mythology. in tighter, more colorful clothes.

Good question. I can see future archeologists digging up the remains of our civilization and misinterpreting figures from our popular culture as religious icons. It's not impossible, especially given how pop culture permeates so many aspects of our daily lives.
