downloaded music I am considering downloading music from the internet.
I have always been against it because I like getting CD's for the artwork inserts etc. But I also thought that MP3 music would not have the full range sound of a pressed CD. Is this correct? Does it matter where you download music from? I am thinking walmart or Amazon music. There are some neo soul songs I would like to have, but I am pretty sure I would not enjoy the full CD so why not by just what I want? As for the sound quality, I think it's as good if not better than a cd.

There are two types of computer audio files: lossless and lossy.
Lossless files are those which are bit-identical to the source; lossy files are those which have had information permanently removed. Lossless file formats can easily duplicate CD quality. Some of the more popular ones are FLAC, WavPack, Shorten, TAK, Apple Lossless, and WMA Lossless. Lossy codecs use psychoacoustic algorithms to determine what audio data is not likely to be perceptible to human ears, and then proceed to delete that information. (This is why lossy files are so much smaller than lossless.) Some popular lossy formats are MP3, OggVorbis, WMA, AAC, and MusePack. Check out HydrogenAudio for the low-down on digital audio.

Thanks, I know about that site. I don't want to make my computer sick by going to those types of sites. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

I guess if I am really busy downloading for a month, I can get all the songs I want to hear for the price of 1 CD. Not bad. Most of the music I want to hear is last year's (or older) stuff anyway.
