You have to apply and qualify, and often take a training or two, but they're out there. Yup,cause this is how I had my previous job caring for my uncle whom was mentally disabled. To answer ZombieKittens question, I get paid through NCO (North Coast Opportunities). I am not sure if they are government run or not. Yes I am making a concience decision to not obtain another job right away,I am currently trying to do online classes for my next career choice, but I did'nt just start watching my nephews,I have been caring for them for at least 10yrs now,and that was because it worked. Their mother was able to get a job,and the job I had caring for my uncle allowed me to have them with me,so I was able to do both. If I was to get another job caring for another person like I did my uncle,I would not be able to take them with me,and that is why I need my unemployment benefits,so that I can have more money to live on while in the process of doing my schooling for my next job. [Edited 6/14/09 12:11pm] Unemployment is not intended to provide an income while someone attends school. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. PunkMistress said: BobGeorge909 said: no..it's not like that here. No allowances for caring for children or older people. Sometimes the gov't will help low income parent's/single motheres pay for child care. But they wont pay a babysitter money cuz they can't can't babysit anymore cuz they're looking for a job. Not to be an ass, but I see it as the person who started this thread is making a concience dedicion to not work and care for another's children instead. As far as the gov't is concerned, that's his/her choice for employment. He/she is choosing to earn 300/mo watching children than look for a job that would pay better. I think tax dollars are being used/not being used appropriately here. Not true. I never had to do any training when I started caring for my uncle, but when my aunt became his respite provider, she had to take a CPR class. Yes I could get paid to go to school, but only through a certain facility here, but I have already paid for the online class, and I don't think that the facility here even offers that sort of training. I filled out my appeal form, and will send it in tomorrow. Hopefully they will decide differently this time. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

[Edited 6/14/09 12:11pm] what u r looking for is a school grant to cover living expenses or at least help with them or if U need to, a student loan. That ismoneymeantfor you to live on while U R goingto school. Unemployment is money meantto help U live while U R looking fora job because your prior employment was terminated for various reasons, notanyreason, but somewhat specific ones. ThesituationU R describingcalls for a grant...it's taxfree Ibelieve and grants usually arent loans. Thepeople/organizations giving them out though can be fairley discriminating though. A studentloan is appropriate though and easier to get, but Ugotta pay it back when u finish school. I also wanna say that the money U were getting from NCO might not count as earned income so Umight not even have any unemployment insurance to draw from. U need to have put into the fund a minimum amout(like having earned at least $50 a week for the last 2 mo's or so). The money from NCO U were getting might not count as earned income. I'm thinking that they were giving U stipends and that U weren't actually employed by them.

I am not trying to obtain unemployment insurance through the money that I make through NCO because they don't pull anything from my checks,so at the end of the year I am taxed for the full amount that I made that year. I am trying to obtain it from the work that I did caring for my uncle for 16 yrs.I got paid from the state for that through HHS (Health and Human Services). Thanks for the information,I will look into the grants, and student loans. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach
