loved it but i love any small budget movie that sticks 2 fingers up at hollywood and becomes an international phenomenon. The music all the way through is fantastic too, is it some kind of hammond organ?very funky. bloody brilliant Don: Hey, Napoleon. What did you do last summer again? Napoleon Dynamite: I told you! I spent it with my uncle in Alaska hunting wolverines! Don: Did you shoot any? Napoleon Dynamite: Yes, like 50 of 'em! They kept trying to attack my cousins, what the heck would you do in a situation like that? Don: What kind of gun did you use? Napoleon Dynamite: A freakin' 12-gauge, what do you think? [Edited 6/10/09 23:07pm] Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Lammastide said: Netflix.com says Napoleon Dynamite is one of few films that defies prediction of viewer reaction based on that viewer's ratings of other films. And reactions I've seen tend to be extreme: People seem either to love it or hate it.
Have you seen it? Love it? Hate it? Not moved either way? Certainly not moved. Didn't like it. No need to see it again. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Genesia said: I would be willing to bet that the haters only saw it once. When I watched it the first time, I was all --> I just didn't think it was that funny - and couldn't see what the fuss was about.
Fortunately, before I returned it to Netflix, I mentioned my reaction to one of my friends, who said, "You have to watch it more than once. It's way funnier the second time." So I watched it again and - lo and behold - she was right! It is much funnier the second time. I think what happened is that I was so busy (the first time) trying to figure when and where the film was taking place, that I overthought it. It's one of those movies that you just have to go with - and accept that it makes no sense whatsoever. I did just go with it and it took me absolutely nowhere. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

....Like Frank Zappa once said. 'You either get it or you don't'.
For the record I think it's hysterical! The more I watch it, the more I find funny. Check out Tina's reaction when Napoleon feeds her..... ....*sigh* funny...

It's one of those movies that you just have to go with - and accept that it makes no sense whatsoever. It actually reminds me of a coen bros. film in that sens (While I loved ND, I am in no way comparing it to the masterpieces that are most Coen brothers films). Most of theirs, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, No Country for Old Men, even Burn After Reading, are really difficult watches the first time because you don't know what you're looking for. When the credits finally roll, it's like you have a chance to say "Okay, that's what the film decided to focus on, that's its tone, etc. I got it", and then every future viewing can be appreciated properly. At least that's what I got out of it. Napoleon Dynamite: Love it. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal" - Carl Sagan

Second, since when do films require repeated viewings to be appreciated? Since when is that an acceptable standard?
