Anyone who knows me knows that I am so anti-violence it hurts and I stated in this thread that I do not believe that tasers should be used at all, for a series of reasons.

But in no way was this an abuse of power situation. He was well within his right to use the taser, he gave her several chances to comply, he warned her that he would use the taser several times and she still refused to do as she was told, which was basically to calm the fuck down for a minute.

I feel zero sympathy for this woman, I don't care what her age is.

That's brutal! That woman stood no chance against a swine of that build and strength, yet he still made the choice to be a complete pussy and control the situation by using a taser on an old woman. Yah definately abuse of power when other methods could have been negotiated.

Yet, if he had put his hands on her, then EVERYONE would be crying foul, so he really can't win in this situation. He handled it appropriately, imo. If he wrestled her to the ground, people would be going crazy! He told her to calm the hell down shrug

Not a single physical act was necessary in this case! He needs to grow some balls and intelligence.

So he should've just stood there and argued with her? I think not.

Oook, but it was the old lady that was arguing, so she brought this on herself. If she would've just done what he said, then there wouldn't have been an argument and she wouldn' have gotten tased.

It's great to think that all of this could've been avoided, but she brought it on herself. She even asked for it shrug So, he had to react and he reacted in a appropriate way. Just my opinion.

Are cops supposed to let go folk that don't cooperate if they are smaller or old? Just wave and say "You don't have to mind me. I'll just mail you the ticket."

he could have killed her. what if she had a bad heart or a pacemaker? why didn't he just walk away after he got her to sign the ticket? what happened to respecting your elders? If she had been a young hot blonde with huge tits, tanned skin and a round ass...well he wouldn't have tazed her. Probably would be some other lawsuit brewing if you catch my drift.

eh fuck him! bully!!!

I find it interesting how she kept saying she was 72 years old as if she was looking for some type of leeway or exception. I'm sorry but the sense of entitlement I get from this irks the hell outta me. If she didn't want ANY confrontation all she had to do was what he asked. He had a reason for stopping her in the first place. She was in the wrong.

I see what you are saying. there are alot of elderly people who feel like they've paid their dues, worked hard and have watched the country or maybe just their home state change in a way they do not like. I be the kind of police officers she came into contact with when she was young are not the same kinds around today. Plus, how fast was she speeding. If you give me a ticket for going 5 miles over Ima be pretty pissed about it too especially if everyone else is doing the same thing. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in court if it indeed gets that far. My guess is she will still have the ticket but get some small compensation for her trouble. Public image still matters to the Texas PD I'm sure.

I think that he lost his temper.

There is a VERY IMPORTANT REASON for him to want her to move away from the passing cars.

So now he's left with trying to get the ornery old coot out of harm's way, and probably just lost his temper.

shrug

If by the age of 72 your life experience hasn't taught you to;
a) stay away from speeding cars
b) don't fight with a cop twice your size
c) don't dare that cop to taser you

...then LESSON LEARNED I'd say.

I still laugh at that. How the hell are you going to dare somebody to taser you? I mean she really thought he wouldn't do it and then it was "oh oh owee". I still feel sorry for her though. Maybe she is senile hmmm

You're right, he could have killed her and that is why I do not believe that tasers should be used - ever and hopefully things will change. I know it's a big debate here in Canada. But, for now, they are well within their right to use them and he used it appropriately in this case.

Can you controll the wattage on a taser? Maybe he could have given her a low zap? confused

Because if you need to control a dangerous individual and DON'T want to shoot him/her with a gun...a smile and "pretty please" don't work very well.

Couldn't he had just put her in handcuffs? confused

Ivy, I'm 100% with you on this one and some of the responses in here just make me disbelief

For one, dude was easily twice her size. Yes she was being a bitch, but you mean to tell me he couldn't have spun her around, cuffed her ass with the quickness, and tossed her in the back of the cop car?

2.how did he know she didn't have a heart condition? She could have wound up dying there on the side of the road from that shot of the taser.

3.If she'd dared him to punch her in the face and he'd done it, would some of you be saying the same thing? To me, there's little difference between a cop tasing an old woman or choking out a teenager with no cause.

Also, there was a pretty obvious edit in that video we were shown. I don't know what she did to end up having to get out of the car, but even if she'd hit the cop, he was big enough that he could have overpowered her without having to resort to the taser. I'm not saying she was in the right, but neither was he.disbelief

Pepper spray in the eyes and beatings with a baton (nightstick) are no more humane - and possibly can cause more harm - than tasers.
