She deserved it. What makes her think that she can lip off to the police like that and get away with it? She THOUGHT she could get away with it because she was 72! lol He showed her!

Why should he? He told her what would happen if she didn't listen. She chose to be tasered, in fact she asked for it and taunted.

Her age has nothing to do with it.

I doubt he felt good about the action, but it's was protocol and he did everything by the book. He warned her, and she taunted him! He HAD to take action. He's the police, it's his job.
In this case, he did nothing wrong....and I RARELY side with the po-po...

I would hardly consider this violence. He tased her, she fell to the ground, end scene. Now, if he tased her and then tackled her and put her in a headlock, then I would definitely say that was violent and uncalled for neutral

I've said the situation is funny, yet I do understand your angle. (And I admit after seeing the incident, I'm not quite as nonchalant about it.) You've got a good heart, Ivy.

For me, the amusement (dark, though it may be) lies not only in the fact this woman thought she was entitled to disobey very reasonable -- even benevolent -- authority... and got her comeuppance. She also would have run this officer's name through the mud, coloring him as another unjustified aggressor with a badge and causing drama to all sorts of people with her easy lies... and she got her comeuppance. She got zapped twice: once with a taser; once with that video camera.

I definitely hope this woman quickly and fully recovers from the mess she made, but this sort of weird karmic dance isn't altogether upsetting to me.

It's weird that some believe that this is more serious than what it really is. He only tased her and he had reason to shrug

Let's talk about the youtube video of 2 officers choking a black teenager until he fell unconscious...or the video of the officer who kicked the guy in the head while he was already laying face down on the ground and surrendering....THAT'S serious, violent and unwarranted behaviour. An old lady lipping off and being handled in a completely "by the books" manner, is nothing that should get ones panties in a bunch neutral

Anyone who knows me knows that I am so anti-violence it hurts and I stated in this thread that I do not believe that tasers should be used at all, for a series of reasons.

But in no way was this an abuse of power situation. He was well within his right to use the taser, he gave her several chances to comply, he warned her that he would use the taser several times and she still refused to do as she was told, which was basically to calm the fuck down for a minute.

I feel zero sympathy for this woman, I don't care what her age is.

I've been to Oakland. My mom said back in the 70s and 80s they were notorious for raping and killing hookers, robbing and killing drug dealers and then folks started fighting back. Its been an up and down war ever since with basically the whole city suffering for it. All I can say is good thing Im not a crazy bitch with a gun because a muthaphuckin cop would be first on my list to catch some lead.

My dad is a retired cop. He had to deal with a lot of shit and well, sometimes you just snap after dealing with so many assholes. He actually busted a few friends of mine and they said he was the coolest cop there. I guess if you gave him a hard time he gave it right back to you, but for the most part was respectful.

Yeah, we have a very unusual Hate/Love/Hate relationship with our police force... confused On the one hand I want them to do more to keep crime down so our businesses won't suffer under the weight of Oakland's reputation and on the other hand I wish the Cops here would catch a fuckin' clue on how to actually abide by the rule of law which they are sworn to protect. It doesn't help that one month they "accidentally" shoot and murder innocent civi's and then 2months later 4 officers get slaughtered while trying to catch a child rapist and the public says it's payback... confused

It's pathetic and sad. Unfortunately I feel that too many cops are corrupt and thus the non-threatening and possibly innocent get shot down while the gang bangers and rapist remain on the loose. About 10 years ago, I was leaving Oakland from having visited a relative and this cop rolls up to me as I hurried across the street barely making the green light and he tells me to "get in his car" he was high as muthafucka, I could see it in his eyes. I kept walking and luckily he got a call on his radio. I could have been shot in the back by that peice of trash. With the Abner Louima (sp) and that other dude shot at the club before he was to be married along with all the other nonsense I hear and read about; I have absolutely no respect for law enforcement. hmph!

That's brutal! That woman stood no chance against a swine of that build and strength, yet he still made the choice to be a complete pussy and control the situation by using a taser on an old woman. Yah definately abuse of power when other methods could have been negotiated.
