I remember a couple of mine fondly, and I often wonder what they look like now, or what they are doing now. One was not even a boyfriend, just a very painful highschool crush, and STILL I fantasise about bumping into him! 22 years later - my friends say he still looks just the same omfg

I think about some of my previous loves far too much

but in reality time clouds your judgement i am sure,

you end up remembering the great parts and glossing over what drove you crazy about then

at least thats what i keep telling myself smile

Actually that sounds quite cool

however, 1. is the farm near the sea

and 2. does he have nice breasts (i think that is an important prerequiste when considering these things) biggrin

shrug I just gave myself permission to continue to love them - it's matured into a different kinda/depth of love over the yrs yes

I don't understand why you can not love something you once did simply because life changes lol and I REALLY don't understand why some can't at least stay friends with pasts loves - I mean you LOVED them for gods sake lol

I can't do the self tourture of ripping out a part of my heart and soul and tossing it in the trash simply because life gave me new paths to walk

I don't think you totally get over a lost love. I feel you will always carry a part of them in your heart. I also feel getting over or letting go of each one would be different when it comes to time based on the intensity of the relationship.

Imago

Very trickey question.
My longest relationship was 6 years. It took roughly 3 months not to want to pick up the phone and call her, and she was trying to call me for about 5 or 6 months.

The trick that works for me is not to fool yourself into being friends. I tried that route with her (we broke up almost yearly falloff) and ended up still talking and being 'friends'. It just didn't work well for me. So the last time I broke up with her I just stopped talking and thinking about her. I find it much easier to write about it here than to speak about it to people, so I just don't.

I don't think you 100% get over anybody, unless you really didn't love them to begin with. Some people claim to be in love, and I think maybe they're just not experience to same aching, stomach wrenching, emotion I feel? Cause you can move on in your life and never think about the person again. But for me, that doesn't mean if I bump into them at the mall, I won't get uncomfortable having to pretend to be interested in what they've been up to. To this day, I entertain no fantasies nor desire to have her in my life in any capacity but if we ran into each other and she told me she was happy and going to get married, I couldn't find myself in a place to be happy for her. She doesn't deserve it. lol

I know what Simon is saying about always only thinking of the good times in hindsight. I think my brain is just wired wrong, cause I never do that. I only ever think about the bad times, or the clues as to why we were doomed to fail. And I blame them, cause it's what I have to do to not miss them. I also delete all evidence of our relationship (pictures, etc. etc.) so I can never just pull them up and look at them. lol (I'm fucked up and hardcore like that. shrug)

If I had to give you a time estimate, I'd say 2 months regardless of how long I've been in a relationship. Whenever I went on TDYs(temperary tour of duties which last 3 months in the Air Force), and came back to my base afterwords, I normally came back not in love with whoever I had either been dating or in love with before the TDY. lol
