Do you owe any old apologies? I'm always a bit nostalgic and melancholy in the summertime. Probably too much time on my hands with no classes, etc.
Anyway, I was randomly thinking of people from the past and a childhood pal crossed my mind. This guy, Kurt, was a kid I sometimes played with/sometimes fought with from across the street where I grew up. I was oblivious then, but now that I'm older, I recognize some of the stuff going on in his life back then as signs of family dysfunction. On one occasion he stayed at my home for a week when his parents "had to be out of town." I recall being a complete Nazi to him. I wouldn't let him share any of my things, I picked fights with him, I repeatedly insulted him in front of my other friends, etc. I was AWFUL! My dad kicked my ass for it (appropriately, I think), but for more than 30 years, when I think back to that time, it makes me ashamed of myself. So, anyway, I was sort of cyber stalking Kurt tonight and I came across his profile on a particular website. Thank God, he seems to be well! I ruminated over the awkwardness of it a bit, but after some time, I fired off a letter of hello... and an apology. He may recall nothing. He may scoff at me. He may send a reply telling me where I can stick my apology. ...But somewhere inside of me, I feel a bit better for having humbled myself. Am I being petty? Do any of you have old apologies you feel you should make? And what do you think, if anything, is the value of such stuff? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

At this time I can't say I have any, I think I'm pretty forth coming, but I think clearing the air especially for something that's been on your mind can be nothing but healthy whether the other person is receptive or not.

Yes.
I made a few to someone in the last few days. More of them to make, I know, and I don't think I'll ever be done making them.

Not a bad policy. Question, though: Did you make apologies when they were due, or have you just forgone them? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Lamma,
I'd just like to take this opportunity to apologize for my tireless teasing about the Niles Crain similarities. I'm sorry. I, too, have waxed on and on about the beauty of Gorecki's symphonies, the genius composition of Ansel Adams' photographs and the uncompromising starkness of James Baldwin's writing. You are not Niles!!!! But, eh, you are close...
