So my Daughter asked me "what's a hickey"..... and how do you get one?
Oh Boy! This is what I was thinking..... It begins with a soft sensual nibble and if the passion is just right and you and your partner are OH SO HOT it can turn into this oh so awesome feeling bite... But it leaves a horrible mark, so you want to make sure hickey (s) are given in places on the body that are not visible or you can hide with clothing. A HICKEY ON THE NECK IS A NO-NO....NOT pretty. BUT, Instead I told her they are bites that grown ups give when they play with each other. They look tacky and they ARE ONLY FOR THE ADULTS! Avoid at all times, they can cause cancer... She gave me this "I'm gonna throw up" look..... I asked her why she asked.....she said her teacher had one.... had to post, couldnt help it.... Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize u simply imagined this So u lean over and give her a kiss Here on earth, here on earth, with u it's not so bad Here on earth, here on earth eye don't feel so sad Stay right here

Without knowing how old your daughter is I would say why not be honest with her? In her own words for age ofcourse.

For right now I want to put water on the fire before it even happens.I kind of wanted to scare her. Kids are starting to do things way too young these days. My parenting skills are not perfect. But I usually get the job done. ps, Im not trying to offend anyone by using cancer as an outlet... [Edited 5/27/09 13:22pm] Say it's just a dream...

Cancer?
I'd tell me son straight up what it was and what causes it. I feel no reason to lie about things like this.

When ours asked - I simply gave myself one on my arm and showed /explained it to them

Again, everyone has their ways of telling their kids about certain things.. This is easy compared to things to come. And thats when I will have to be brutally honest with her. Say it's just a dream...

My sister and I used to give each other hickeys all the time when we were - not on necks or anything, we didn't know LOVERS did it to each other, we'd chase each other, grab an arm and suck until it went red while the other screamed and thrashed around. The master used to do it to me too, until once I gave him one on the forehead I'd explain it to my kids along these terms, like playfighting with the intent to leave a mark, and it's a mean thing to do.

[Edited 5/27/09 13:22pm] Hey I agree with what you said...there was this thing on tv....some little kids were tested to see how they would react when a stranger lures them with candy and tries to take them away to their car. Out of all the kids one said no...and that was because his mom told him not to trust strangers because they might kill him. So kudos to her. We have to scare kids to protect them. unlucky7 reincarnated

I do use scare tactics on the big stuff, after all, I'm only giving her a 'worst case scenario'. Not sure I'd have gone with the cancer thing though I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

it's better to explain it early than to end up like me when i was a kid, and learn that if you hold the vacuum tube to your arm or even just suck on your arm long enough, you get a cool purple bruise. and you can put one anywhere you have skin!
yeah, sounds freaky to adults, but when you're 6 years old it's the coolest thing ever.
