Look at the size of the girl my daughter had to mark (Soccer/Futbol)..... in one of her Soccer games last Saturday!
This girl was huge (my daughter # 5 in red): 
But my daughter got the best of her and kept her off the ball consistently like this (and didn't have a foul called against her): 
My daughter catching up.... 
....and then stealing the ball from another girl (she knocked the ball out clean - no foul): 
Playing defense: 
Sending the ball up the field: 
Resting in between games: 
She played great...she played 210 minutes out of 210 minutes this weekend and didn't get tired....I am so proud of her! She plays on a Class I Premiere team (U12 girls) that won the NorCal State Cup Championship last February. . [Edited 5/28/09 13:12pm] "Always blessings, never losses......"

Often times it is the advantage of the marker to be a bit smaller 
you can get a bit lower and into their center of gravity that way  | |

It is what we always tried to do when we asked a player to mark another- like a pocket rat smaller is better and the bite is the same | |

My daughter was actually playing mid-field but we were playing short that game (we only had 8 vs their 11 plus subs) so she had to help out a lot on defense. "Always blessings, never losses......"
