What Makes You Happy?

In times like these things can really suck....the recession, job loss, depression, deaths....the list of things that make our hearts hurt comes too fast and easy. This is a little corny, but even here on the org, we need corny sometimes.

So....lets talk about the bubbles and butterflies in our lives. What makes your heart smile, makes your footsteps feel like your walking on clouds. What is a sure fire trick that perks your day right up (and I'm not talking about your morning coffee)?
Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Everything about my daughter...

Hearing my mom's laugh...

Photography...

Spending a few hours with a close, intimate friend...

Sitting in a movie theatre about to watch a movie I've been anxious to see for months...

Taking a walk around sunset...

Reading a good book on a Sunday afternoon while laying on the livingroom couch...

My daughter's dog greeting me at her door when I visit...

One thing: When I go to bed, and I'm laying there, my cat Clarice comes up by my pillow and sleeps on the corner of the mattress. She has a little fleece blanket I put there for her. She'll butt my head, lick my forehead a few times, and purr like a train. She'll curl up and eventually go to sleep. I wake up and she's still there, in some twisted position only a cat can enjoy.

But also, as I just start to wind down in bed, and get drowsy, the other cat Phoebe (a calico) will come up behind me (I usually start by laying on my left side), and she'll lick the back and side of my head. I have a buzz cut, and apparently she needs to adjust those hairs. She licks for about 10 minutes, and in some really weird way, it puts me right to sleep. I will get sleepy and doze right off while she's still licking the back and side of my head.

But whether Phoebe licks my head or not, it tickles me to death, even after 7 years, that Clarice curls up next to me, and follows me around the house, talks to me, and interacts with me. She's a darling and I love her. She was the runt and I took her. She looks like she's about 2, still small and very svelte. (And she knows how to work it.)

I used to love doing that with my basset hound. I had to leave her in Tulsa when I moved to Minneapolis. Her name was Madison and she had a very good new home when I left. I'm in a cats-only complex. But if I ever get a house or a new place (which will be soon actually), I've thought of a weenie dog. I love them too. I like pugs too.

What kind of dogs do you have?

Well, that sounds like I think what I cook is any good. I'm way too modest to imply that.nod But it's so much fun. I LOOOOVE cooking.

And listening to music of course. Bloc Party right now. And finding new music, reading about music. Really cool re-issues with extensive liner notes of old classics.

I love this thread...you guys are making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

As for me....what makes me happy

.....when my 15 year old son wakes me up in the morning. He says hi mommy, hugs me around my head and lets me know he is off to school

.....When my dog sits on my feet while I'm on the computer

.....When my daughter sings while in the shower at the top of her lungs like nobody else is in the house

.....when my hubby unexpectedly details my car
