New Info on Clash of the Titans

Gemma Arterton will portray demi-goddess Io in the Clash Of The Titans remake.

The Quantum Of Solace actress, who picked up the best newcomer prize at last night's Empire Awards, described the role as "the coolest part".

"Io's not in the original film," she told Empire. "Perseus falls in love with her... It's a really great part."

Arterton added that the Warner Bros remake will shift focus on to the character of Perseus, to be played by Sam Worthington.

"It's much more about Perseus's mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that. So it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that," she said

hmm

Io, who was turned into a cow, is an ancestor of Perseus so I wonder how this is going to turn out.

I’m a big fan of greek myths. They’re so clever, often
shocking, and always entertaining.
I’m not really a fan of Persius, but the Io story
for some reason cracks me up. Especially when one
of the titans is sent to guard her because he has a thousand
eyes, and how that story explains his eyes appearing on
the feathers of a peacock. lol

Great myths. More entertaining than the Biblical myths actually.

There's a Clash of the Titans remake looming?!! eek Wow. I have mixed feelings about this one. I'm SO sick of remakes, but this could be interesting.

But... Io? confuse If she's in it, then Hermes should be -- which would be awesome. woot! But she was an ancestor of Perseus like 3 or 4 generations removed. It sounds (disturbingly) like they're gonna mishmash a bunch of stuff together. I hope they don't totally dishonor the mythology.

OK... I hate to politicize this, but I've just checked out the casting of this film at IMDB. Liam Neeson as Zeus, Danny Huston as Posiedon, Ralph Fiennes as Hades. Those guys are great -- and I'd actually go see Ralph play Marcus Garvey horny -- but we're talking the Mediterranean during the Classical and Hellenistic eras. Um... can we get a little melanin up in here? confused

...And to add insult to injury, there's no mention of Hermes. hrmph

The '81 version was also a mishmash of Greek Myths. Pegasus was not in the Perseus myth. Perseus had winged sandals. I'm a fan of the original movie, but this does not sound good to me. Who the hell is Io? What happened to Andromeda who was Perseus's love?

Definitely. Bellerophone rode Pegs, not Perseus. The version I most commonly read as a kid was that Pegasus sprang from the blood of Medusa's head mixed with the sea. nod They sort of alluded to that in the original movie, if i recall, but not so much as an origin as a resuscitation. Also, there was no "kraken" (which is Norse), the monster was Cetus! And there were no Calibos or Bubo... although I thought an ancient robotic owl was a cool Hollywood nod to Athena's associated bird.

Io, by the way, was one of Perseus' ancestors by way of his mother. What's kind of sick, though -- and typical -- is that Zeus was Perseus' father, but also Io's lover generations before. ill Hera was jealous of Io and had her turned into a cow and monitored by the 1000-eyed Argos. To free her, Zeus sent Hermes to tell Argos boring stories until he died lol ... at which point Hera turned Argos into a peacock (the eyes are still on display in its tail).

...And based on the casting, I guess Andromeda is still in the remake, but I don't know how big of a role she'll have.

Interesting. As a kid, Clash of the Titans led me to check out all sorts of books on Perseus. I loved that movie. Had the toys, book, even the soundtrack album! It looks quite dated now but I'm still unsure on how I will like the remake.

it's not like they didn't do it with the first one. Pegasus was the child of Medusa that sprang from her neck after she was killed

Don't forget that Persues is Heracles great grandfather.

i read that Pegasus was the child of Medusa and Posiedon, Aphrodite caught the two of them having sex in her temple so she made Medusa a gorgan and since Posiedon was the God of Horses their off spring turned out to be Pegasus.
