Have any of you heard of "Play Date?" I think this is a really cute idea. My friends who've gone had a blast. So what's your favorite ol' skool game?
http://www.playdateus.com/ Play Date™ is an alternative to the everyday club scene. The concept was developed to bring interesting diverse groups of people together to interact on a social setting based on playing games. Play Date gives you the opportunity to simply allow yourself to have fun and interact with those who have the same goal. The venues are comfortable and provide a warm and friendly atmosphere. We feature a variety of music accented by delicious food and cocktails. The rooms are filled with laughter, competition, and camaraderie. The tables (or stations) are spread throughout the venue with a variety of games to suit any interest. The games of choice come from a wide range of classics like: Dominoes, card games (Spades, Bid Whist, Poker), Scrabble, UNO, Chess, Checkers, Perfection, Trouble, Pictionary, Yahtzee, Backgammon, Taboo, Operation, Chutes and Ladders, Scattergories, Simon, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Battleship, Connect Four, Twister, Rock'em Sock'em Robots, Jenga, Monopoly, Sorry, and more. We even feature games like Jacks, Pac-Man, and Musical Chairs for true nostalgia. The guests vary in age, ethnicity, profession, and social background yet the games provide an avenue for strangers to become acquainted without the usual awkwardness associated with meeting someone new. The casual environment creates an atmosphere conducive to mingling, meeting, networking, and relaxing.

They even provide franchises. The emergence of population growth and a void in nightlife options represent an opportunity for unique entertainment themed venues and activities. Timeless Entertainment Concepts, LLC (TEC) has developed and launched a concept that promises to bring continued excitement and genuine fun to social interaction for adults - Play Date™. In 2005, TEC launched Play Date Atlanta. Play Date is the solution to the lack of creative social atmosphere and entertainment geared primarily toward the 25-55 age groups in metropolitan cities and surrounding areas. Play Date specifically caters to the mature upscale clientele from select diverse markets by providing activities designed to appeal to adults while allowing them to still have FUN. These groups have proven to be a viable source of consistent and loyal patronage. Our goal is to create new and exciting atmospheres while redefining the landscape of social nightlife across the US. With the continued success of Play Date Atlanta, TEC is now providing an opportunity for others to benefit from this rapidly growing phenomenon by partnering with Play Date USA. This "turn key" solution will prove to be profitable as well as provide long term success in producing unique quality entertainment in your city or town. We will provide you with use of the Play Date brand, a complete website, games, training, professional marketing collateral, detailed strategy, and ongoing support from the Play Date organization. If you are motivated and driven for success, you can become the newest member of a nationwide team providing the true “alternative to the everyday club scene”.

No, but it sounds like a blast When I was in Haiti, we weren't allowed off the military facility at night, and alchohol was verbotten. So I had 3 months to find some way to entertain myself while not at work or at the gym. I discovered the Red Cross held "Balderdash" nights on Saturdays, and I joined cause I love Balderdash. Our game sessions were hilarious, and became so popular that they had to double the number of games played. It was mutli-rank, mult-cultural, and best of all, moral boosting. It's really a great deal of fun, and you get to learn alot about a person by observing how they play a game.

I feel inspired to start up a Naked Military Balderdash Night. ...you know just to boost the boys' moral.

My group of friends used to have (drunken) game nights fairly regularly.
We don't do it so much anymore, though... |

Great idea for meeting singles. Or just gettting groups together at all, really. Much more fun than 'poker night'. Plus, it's amazing how many people don't realize just how creative they can be, until they're required to lie, cheat, and steal balderdash votes.

Most of the boys at the gay strip club I've gone to are ex-military, talking 'bout they ain't gay but will show you their willy for a dolla. See, what I mean John?

I was visiting a friend who was in school in Atlanta getting her doctorate (or whatever you call it) in english and played balderdash with a group of her english doctoral candidate friends and managed to hold my own. I was pretty impressed with myself. |

[Edited 5/21/09 9:00am] It always perplexed me cause most of the gay men in the military are very masculine and you'd never know, but some are actually queens. There's a regulation in the Air Force which forbids 'teasing' or statements made against a man's effeminate behavior, which may be the reason for the no-gays, but queens can walk around base unconcerned paradox. NOTE: I'm not making fun of fem men here. Just stating a fact. I love how we can Ghey the shit out of ANY thread here on the org

I was pretty impressed with myself. I remember I had to write my definition on in as tiny letters as I could cause it was very wordy. They guy who had to read it couldn't stop laughing and his face turned complete red and started sweating. We though he was going to die I can't remember the definition verbatim but it was something like: A serious infection of the respitory system which causes sweating, , gastric discomfort, intense itching, skin peeling, acne, diahrea, bloating of the head, neck, stomach, and buttocks, swelling of the lymp nodes and groin, sever fever, bleeding eye sockets, and very low self-esteem. Of course the definition wasn't meant to win me any votes, but that's the beauty of balderdash. You can just play it to have fun.
