U got Cassettes?

Does anyone by casettes anymore? Are they even still for sale? How about tape decks, or dual tape decks? I remember when I thought I was the bomb for having a DUEL cassette! oooh! What if I have some old cassettes that I want on cd, anybody do that for me?

Do I have cassettes..do I have casettes? I got bags of 'em..it is what kept me from getting a cd player in my damn car for so long becasue I didn't want to replace everything/some stuff you cant find anymore...I still have a Pioneer dual cassette player as part of my home system for all of them. I heard cassettes can be transfered to cd somehow..it's time consuming but still.

You talkin to me...YOU TALKIN TO ME???

lol

You might want to consider making duplicate copies of some of those cassettes...they go bad on their own sometimes...just because of the environment, because they are magnetic.

I have a bunch of cassettes from my father (sentimental value really) that I just recopied onto new cassettes, just to preserve them...some had already deteriorated sad The voice starts to get high, or the sound is distorted...worse even is when the tape starts to snap apart! sad

Just a thought, rdhull.

hehhe--when some tapes would break I used to think I was techo-geek and fix them by splicing them together with pieces of scotch tape thinking I was some technical wizard hehe...and heaven help when they would become twisted and yanked by the machine out of the cassette...you would have to flatten the tape out and roll em back with your finger in the cassette spool taking 30 minutes just to get it back in right and still listen to it with that warped sound at that mark that it got messed up at. I can never get rid of my babies.

ha! I always tripped out when I got Graffitti Bridge on cd..I was so used to Joy In Repetition ending side one on cassette and having the calm silence for a few seconds before it flipped over to side two--on the cd that shit doesn't miss a beat going RIGHT into Love Machine! Yuck!

I've got exactly 100 cassettes. I know this because the storage thing that I have for them holds exactly that many... I held onto the ones that hold a special place in my heart and bring back memories for me while playing them. I still have a tape deck but I haven't used it in ages!

I also have a reel to reel that is in storage and a lot of tapes of my grandfather when he was alive and talking on them to send to my uncle who was in Vietnam. Of course, there are also some of me singing and being a dork. redface

Those are special!!! Store them well! biggrin The sentimental tapes from my dad are his favorite's in music - stuff he used to play all the time, stuff he used to dance and be merry with. biggrin Plus some are of him, my mother, siblings, and me too! They are worth a lot to me. I'm trying to save all this stuff for my girl.

Oh, do get started! I've got a lot of 8mm that was transferred onto VHS. So good to look back, so nice to see folks alive that are not anymore.

Makes me sad, but also happy.

They are tucked safely away... I treasure them all. My uncle and his buddies would send back tapes of them as well... they are difficult to listen to at times as he was so home sick. sad

A lot of memories are on those tapes...

I have a lot of 8mm movies too! We put a lot of them on VHS as well... I usually get them out around Christmas time and make a bunch of popcorn and just sit for hours and watch...

Yeah... come on Rdhull... get started! smile

Its just basically the same as you guys..ya know...your ma recording you as a little kid to send to your dad overseas so he can hear etc... hold up a sec.. somethings in my eye cry

but later in years when we were much much older a friends dad had one and u could adjust the speed..so we ended up making Woody WoodPecker voices that were very very naughty--it was also my first shot at an interview show (I always thought I would be Mike Douglas or Merv, way before Aresenios buck teef and big butt even thought of tv) but all I interviewed were friends who I gave scripts to as if they were promoting a project staring me lol

I would do that too... adjust the speed and do just that! I have tapes of me singing along with Vanity and Ready For The World on there, too... I should dig those out!

We would also do radio commericals... the only one I can remember off hand was a commercial for "Cheetos". smile What fun!

Aren't they fun to listen to, rdhull? smile

I still listen to alot of my cassettes driving in the car. I don't have a CD player in the car. I don't go out and by cassettes tapes in music stores anymore over the fact that spending what is the cost of cassettes tape now between $7-10 bucks and then over playing them sometimes gets ruin the tape ribbon starts to come a loose. I used to play Prince Controversy alot that me had on a cassette tape and guess what it got ruined sad. I know just buy blanks cassettes that are cheaper than buying the album ones and on my CD stereosystem at home just record songs that I like to listen to for playing while driving. If that tapes gets ruined, I just record another one smile I know me should get with the times and just get a CD player in the car for no more have to rewind and fast forward just to listen to a track.

I was a cassette buying freak for several years. But not until long after I became a music collector. Even when I first started buying stuff of my own (around 1989), I was buying cd's. But from about 1997-2001 I was buying a lot of tapes. Even duplicates of things I already had on cd and vinyl. My car cd player went on the fritz and I had to have stuff to listen to.

I've transferred things from tape to cd several times before, but you have to have a separate manual cd-r player. I don't know if those computer ones work for that. I've done tons of vinyl this way too. It's great to be able to have anything you want on disc. I think I'm gonna bust out my tapes and type off a list for y'all. smile

It's actually quite easy to hook your tape player up to your soundcard and record them onto your harddrive and then burn them onto cd's.

Plus it's nice to be able to take the tapes and records into a program like SoundForge XP and improve the sound quality.
