Saying "I Love You"

Are any of you in a situation like me?

I can say "I love you" with ease to those I truly do love, no problem...girlfriends, lovers, friends, etc. But when it comes to saying it to family, it suddenly becomes harder lol lol...I don't think my family has ever been very big on saying "I love you" to each other, DEFINITELY not between me and my siblings. Yet I have THE most loving and supportive family anyone could ever ask for heart...My brother and sisters and I have been like each other's best friends almost all our lives...we adore spending time together, always available for all kinds of support and guidance...hell, we vacation together regularly and have a blast doing so. nod..I don't think a family could be closer than the one I've been blessed to have been born into.

But we almost never say "I love you" lol hmmm...I say it to my mom at the end of each phone call, though, and it seems natural. But she's the only family member that occurs with. We HAVE said it to each other, of course...but it's more like a Haley's Comet type of occurance lol. Make no mistake, none of us question even for one moment whether or not we are loved...we know we are. It's expressed constantly and in a multitude of ways. It's just that, for some reason, the only way in which we choose not to express it is with the words "I love you" lol...

Is anyone else in a similar situation?

Most of my family NEVER says 'I love you' with the exception of my dad, who tells me everytime we talk on the phone lol

I just don't have a very mushy family, and the love is just implied.

It is nice to hear it sometimes though sad
If you will, so will I

Until only the past 2 or 3 years this had been an issue with me also. I have always been able to say "I love you" to relatives, but I couldn't say it first. redface Now, I'm able to say it first to anyone except, for some reason, my brother. (And, of course, he won't say it first either.) confuse I do love him, and I'm sure he loves me, but I suspect it's a guy thing. shrug

my brother gave me a hug for the first time in like a decade this year, and even though we're best friends, it didn't feel natural lol

I always say I love you to my kids and husband, all day everyday. I just want it to be known and never forgotten, that I love them. I will always remember when my Mom was alive, it blew her away one day when my little 4 year old boy came up to me and said "I love you, Mom" she thought it was odd. confused
She never understood, that you can say I love you to someone, just because.

Imago

I can type it on an online forum with no issues.
But with friends or family, I only ever say it if I mean it. And that is rarely lol

I never say it to family. I do say it to certain friends, but that's a select few. I do love my family, but there's SO much history, it's hard to actually say it.

My son and I say it to each other a billion times a day. I say it to my mom when she says it first. I never say it to my dad or my brothers - even though we are really close.

I say "I love you" all the time - to my mother, my in-laws, my brother, cousins, aunties, kids, and of course my husband. My family's very free with the "I love you"s.
It's what you make it.

ZombieKitten

we all say it on the phone all the time, but probably not so much face to face. (my kids are the exception)
