Anybody got any good books they'd like to hype?

I have two books I read recently that I really enjoyed and thought I'd share. The first is The Strain by Guillermo del Toro (the director) and Chuck Hogan. (It's not out till June 2 but I got an advanced copy.) It's yet another book about vampires, but without the sexiness or charm of the recent hot vampire books. This one is just scary, and I loved it for that. Totally great pacing and suspense and atmosphere. It's definitely a summer book, but I mean that in a good way.


The second is an amazing graphic novel called The Photographer, by Emmanuel Guibert and Didier Lefevre. Lefevre was a French photographer who traveled to Afghanistan in 1986 to document the work of Doctors Without Borders. The book incorporates his actual photographs and supplements them with artwork from Guibert. I absolutely loved the design and look of this book. And the story is incredible too. Lefevre talks about everything he went through, and it was informative to read about life in Afghanistan in the '80s. Unfortunately, Lefevre passed away a couple of years ago, but he left behind a beautiful book.

So what about you...have you read any good books lately?

The Dresden Files

My wife read the series a while ago, and I had absolutely NO desire whatsoever to read them.

Then one day I needed something to read, so I picked it off the shelf. And I didn't stop reading until I finished all 5 hardcovers (that's 12 or 13 stories).

I highly recommend it if you like easy-to-read fiction that's fantasy-based, humorous, and slightly mysterious.

And anything else by Gregory Maguire

It gets no better!!

Same author Jon Krakauer wrote this its about different climbing expeditions some which go wrong another interesting insight to the human condition



This is a biography, great story about a guy who bucked the system and did things his way even though he was an asshole i love him i think leonardo Di caprio bought the film rights

These are all different genres but all great novels that i highly recommend

What I went looking for but did not find...

Into the Wild... interesting film (glad I watched it), however the storyline and ending is enough for me to stay away from the book now that I know what happens. If I read the book first, however, then I would of probably wanted to see the film too.

I need to reread this. I read it when I was younger cause my First Sergeant recommended it as a good sci-fi book. I didn't 'get' the book. I probably would appreciate it more now.

I would say YES but there are sexual scenes in it.
Not like, crazy porn or anything, but he is horny and doesn't get much action...and it gets mentioned frequently...and occasionally he gets lucky.
Tough call for a 13-year old. Unless he already has a stack of Playboys underneath his bed.
