A few are failing, but are close to passing. The final will determine it for them. NO ONE should fail in my class. I give everyone major opportunities. Not only did I allow all the students to re-submit their two tests for half credit for the ones they got wrong, but their homework is such that they can keep trying until they get the answer right- online homework rules! There is really no reason to fail in my class unless you don't try.

Unless it's me who's a total math retard. lol But that's a great ratio for a college class to only have a couple who are struggling. That'd be great if you ended up with a 100% success rate. You must be a good teacher.

You're not a retard! You would get an A in my class, for sure. I try to be a good teacher. I told them right from the beginning, "I don't care how you learn, but that you learn." Giving them extra opportunities with their exams and having the homework so that they get immediate feedback is a great benefit to them, I think. I think a lot of teachers (I can see this now that I am one) are simply too lazy or unmotivated to put in that kind of effort.

Yes, but keep in mind that I failed my high school Calculus class. I could not grasp any of it. The older I get, the less patience I have for logical left-brained thinking. I mean, you practically did all my homework for that Statistics class. I'm sure you would make it more enjoyable and easy to understand than Mrs. Jones. I just don't know if my math impaired brain could deal.

I thought you got a C? In any case, I know I'd make it easier than Mrs. Jones. I didn't exactly hear glorious reviews of her teaching! I think part of your deal (and most people's, actually) is that you are scared of math. Everyone has subjects they don't like- for me it would be political science. However, math gets a really bad rap because a lot of teachers make it more high-brow than it needs to be.

I dunno. I wasn't scared of math before Calculus. It's just not my strongest subject, that's all. I guess Mrs. Jones and that class did turn me off to wanting to ever take a Math class again though. But sometimes, I wish I could brush up on the fundamentals. Like revisit the classes I did like- Geometry, Algebra, Trig, etc. It might be like you with Art though- it might not be a lack of ability, you just don't think you're very good at it. That can keep you from wanting to pursue it. Same with me and math unfortunately.

Everybody's got their thing. I'm sure you could teach me a lot about art and I could teach you a lot about math. I hate hearing that teachers ruin an entire branch of knowledge for someone. Strange as it may sound, my linear models professor almost ruined math for ME!

I bet! And to think that you'll have to take him again next semester. Uggh! I think a lot of it has to do with natural ability and interest too. I've always been fascinated with colors, shapes and visual media and you've always been into numbers, order, lists and statistics.
