It was good. I really liked it.
The beginning obviously was a good set up for the rest of the movie (a bit confusing at first since I thought he knew his dad, but it explains it later on). It was the perfect "pull the chicks in" moment.

Overall, I loved it.

I liked all the characters except I felt Spock's mom was a bit off. Wynonna just didn't fit the part.

She was a huge 'Alien' fan, so it's not a stretch to think she's also a fan of this franchise.

I do feel Abrhams added a nice jolt to the franchise with this new crew though.

It was alright. Too many one-liners and played into a lot of Trek stereotypes (Kirk fucking a green bitch, "I'm a doctor not a...!," etc.), but Spock was great. Nice effects, terrible jittery camerawork.

My only gripe with it is the whole time travel thing....its really been done to death a lot lately especially when you have JJ Abrams and Damon Lindof from Lost directing/producing it I felt like I got some insight into how Lost is going to end lol And I didn't really think Nero was a very good villain. It just didn't feel like he was such a threat to everyone. Sure he did some bad stuff but after he did what he set out to do what was he going to do then?

Hopefully if they do turn this into a rebooted series they address that issue in the next few movies

I really liked this movie even though I usually can't sit through anything else Star Trek. It was actually fun to watch, though I agree the camerawork was bad.

I didn't realize Winona Ryder was Spock's mother until the closing credits They didn't give her much to work with for the role.

Two words: LOVED IT!

Saw it in IMAX tonight. I sat close....4th row. 12,000 watts of Star Trek was pretty damn awesome. It's a very noisy movie. SO very well done.

I friggin LOVED IT!

i hate the way some people have been nit picking it to death about the whole time/space/black hole theory... & what the hell is red matter? & why doesnt the enterprise have any? confused

i liked the young spock...& the beginning made me cry (no spoilers) I hated winona rider, thank god she only had a few lines.
simon pegg provided comic relief (LOVE him)

so...dont try to make sence of it...enjoy for what its worth...a great reality escape!~

I didn't even recognize Wynona Rider. I saw her name in the credits and thought I was being punked. I thought they cut her scene, but didn't get to take her name out of the credits. I had to wait for the scroll to see who she played.

It was fun, definitely liked it, though the IMAX screen I saw it on seemed pretty puny. Definitely not worth the 17.50(!) ticket price.

But my main beef?

[SPOILERS COMING]

I was they could've come up with one line explaining why all the other black holes destroyed planets and ships and shit, and when Spock and Nero go through it, they just go back in time. If they did, and I just missed it, someone clue me in!

They did mention that it was creating a space tunnel to go forward or backward in time. That's why when Nero went through first, it was 25 years on his end before Spock came through, yet to Spock it was only a minute.

I saw Transformers, Night at the Museum II, Harry Potter (IMAX 3D), and something else. Only about 3 previews. It was IMAX, so they only advertised IMAX movies.

But why did create a space tunnel just that one time--every other time it destroyed ships and whole planets. Maybe because it was in the center of the planet? I dunno, maybe pieces of Vulcan are actually back in time or the future now

Black holes have been used before as a time warp tunnel (similar to the worm hole in Voyager). I had the impression that the black hole's function as a time warp was a bonus. Nero just wanted to destroy Vulcan, Earth and other planets to save Romulus. When he passed through the black hole he realized what happened ,and waited for Spock to come through to destroy him.

It destroyed Vulcan because it was at the center of Vulcan. The black hole literally ate the planet.
When Romulus was destroyed the black hole had already eaten the supernova. so maybe it had stabilized into a tunnel after that initial event. Nero went through first and had a "faster" transit. Spock took longer. With the destruction of Nero's ship, it was the initial even that caused the destruction.
