I was young:
Was gone riding and got surprised by thunderstorm. My horse was scared as anything. On my way back home I avoided by a narrow margin a tree struck by lightning. The tree fell so that I could still pass and follow the path, but with a broken peaked branch pointed to the floor. I was more scared for the horse than myself so I bended my head forward while galloping to pass under the tree so that the branch scratched my whole spine very badly. I was foolhardy back in the days [Edited 5/9/09 4:52am] Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity

I had NO IDEA where I was. *scaling a cliff above a river and getting stuck there with no way to move (also alone) *being a passenger on a crazed jeep climbing the Himalayas on a one lane road full of hairpin turns and spectacular dropoffs *wandering around the Roman Coliseum at night and becoming a victim of physical assault by a band of gypsy children etc etc I forgot to mention that I blithely wandered into what could be considered a war-zone in East Jerusalem. That was one of the most edgiest things I've ever done and VERY uncomfortable. i've become boring lately though

But alas, while no fun, it was pretty exciting not knowing what these assholes were going to do with me and trying to get out of it the best I could. That's a crazy story. But I would NEVER step foot outside my hotel without my passport, especially in an 'underdeveloped' country. I never take my passport with me as I am afraid it might get stolen if I do, especially in 3rd world countries. When I am abroad I often do have a back up photocopy of my passport with me, but I'd still be afraid of all the problems it would cause if my passport got stolen. On our way back we would turn off the car lights and as soon as we thought we were going to crash we would turn them on. We would be laughing and screaming the entire time.
We could have literally fallen off a cliff. God I miss him sooooo much.
