Did you used to go on school field trips? Where did you go? Anything amusing occur? Did you miss the bus back?!

50 grade 8's camping for a week in the forest.
it was our "end of middle school" kind of celebration.
they go every June. the packing list specifically said
for no one to bring any lighters or fuel of any kind.

my hunky farmboy brought charcoal lighter fluid.
(he's hot, but not the swiftest at times)

we're in a covered picnic shelter... fire in an open fireplace.
unbeknown to me the lighter fluid comes out and someone else
squirts it onto the fire. imagine the trail of fire running
up the stream of lighter fluid. dude drops the can of fluid.
now there is a pool of fluid burning on the ground.

in all the brilliant ideas of a bunch of grade 8's we grab
a trash can that was partially full of rainwater and throw it
on the burning lighter fluid. doh! now the whole floor is
burning. people start to try to stamp out the fire.
people's pant legs start catching on fire. then they panic
and start running through the forest neutral

said friends do not heed calls to "stop, drop and roll!"
and have to be tackled in order to put their clothes out.

thankfully the forest was wet. thankfully the fluid burnt up
and the fire was extinguished. thankfully the friends didn't
singe more than the hair on their legs and scorch their pants
and thankfully we didn't burn down a park.
