I've never understood the "smoking looks cool" thing. (And I don't say that toward any character judgements.) I've just always thought the negative things we've known about smoking for so long entirely cancel any cool effect. It's like seeing someone with a needle in their vein.

What I CAN say, though, is I can see how the feel of the cig between your fingers, the measured inhalation and exhalation and watching the smoke slowly spiral into the air might have a sort of meditative effect. I burn incense sometimes, and I get captivated by the smoke and its fragrance. I can only imagine that if my own breathing had some sort of interplay with it, I could get totally reeled in.
